Sounds like those aren't the right batteries.....alkaline? *sigh*

Do we know for sure that they were alkaline? All the article says is that they were Enercell batteries (Enercell is just the brand name used for Radio Shack) but not what particular batteries they were.

The Enercell name has expanded to include all power accessories in the form of alkaline and rechargeable batteries, power adapters, power inverters, travel adapters and voltage converters, as well as surge protectors, power strips and power cords sold at Radio Shack.

ETA: I don't know how long this fellow had been vaping or whether or not he did any research but cases like this should remind us precisely why it is never a good idea to wrecklessly recommend a mod to a new vaper who is asking what to get as a 'first device' without also guiding them toward 'battery safety' information. I know that many of us had our own trials and tribulations trying to keep our first cig-sized devices suitably charged and wish that we had been steered toward a mod from the get go, but how many of us might have made the same mistake choosing batteries if a mod had been our first device??? Chances are there would have probably been more accidents like this one.

LOL cactus, nice quote from the bottom of the Wiki article, I was going to post the link then realized. :p

They may have expanded the line to include those things but none of those things are Lithium Ion batteries, which is what he should have been using. It seems clear to me from my Google-Fu that Enercell are alkaline batteries. Whether they were rechargeable or not is really moot, IMO.

I was in The Source (kind of like radio shack) looking for a spring for my EVO, the guy asks what i am using it for, i tell him, he then asks if i need any batteries for my evo, I tell him it takes rechargeable 16340's, so he proceeds to scour the battery rack (not that i was going to buy any of them lol). He found something the same size, an alkaline battery (i believe) and tries to tell me that it should work just fine, but it is not rechargeable......uhhh no thanks. Someone whom does not know any better might wind up buying them though :(

:ohmy:i am shocked you did not get the source's canned saying: we have to special order that, and it will cost $34.99 plus tax and takes 3 to 4 days to come in hmm unless it only goes for the source in Manitoba?

My Google-fu has done some research and found that-
Enercell does indeed make Lithium ion batts BUT they are the flat cell phone type or tiny cr123 types for key fobs and such.
The AAA or AA sized Enercell rechargables are all Ni-MH construction intended for toys and cordless phone sort of applications.

So it is likely he was running either stacked 3v or single 1.5v Ni-MH into a 3.5ohm or less continuos load. (not familiar with the mod)

I am curious as to what the results of a controlled bench test would be, take a few recharchable Enercel Ni-MH and load test them at 4, 3.5, 2 and 1.7 ohm continuos loads- Temps, bursting, explosion, kittens???? I eally need a proper shop to tinker in.
