Hi - I was given a couple of manual batteries by a lady who sells e-cigs at the local flea market. They were, supposedly, defective and returned by customers. Well, one I had to repair the LED wire and the other works just fine.

I found that they fit my old KR808D-2 (two!) cartos and charger. Problem is, they don't seem to want to charge. I had to widen the entry hole to the charger so that the button didn't get pressed when the batt was screwed in. Charger itself still works fine but it doesn't seem to sense the G-batt is connected.

This MAY have been one of those disposable e-cigs - are they somehow blocked from recharging? Or maybe the center conductor of the batt is too deep to contact the charger's center pin? This is the type of batt with the slot in the center pin. I THINK I read somewhere here that you can turn this to adjust the height of the pin but don't want to twist the internal wire off if that isn't so.

Any ideas? Sure would like to keep using these 2 batts - 3.8V!

Thanks, Rick

Disposible are rechargeable.

A very tiny 'L' shaped piece of a metal paperclip placed into the center hole on the battery is how someone on the forums created a contact. I have tried it with some other brand of battery and it worked. It has to only make contact with the center sections of the battery and charger. Good luck. The center pins are definitely making contact in the charger. The charger's output is correct ~4.2V. The LED on this batt doesn't work, but the batt drives an atty just fine nonetheless. The deal is that the charger LED doesn't turn red when the batt is screwed in, which would be the only way to tell if it is charging or not since the batt's LED is on the fritz.

Do chargers for manual batts push in the batts' switch when they are screwed/plugged into them? Maybe there's something extra you need to do with them? I've always been an "autobatt" and so this is new territory. Would be nice to get all these freebie batts working to save $$...

Thanks,
Rick

For auto or manual batteries, the charger reverses the way they discharge, to pump electricity into them. They have circuitry to allow this input of volts/amps. To output voltage/amps, it requires a switch to activate. On manual batts, you have a 'manual' switch. On auto batts, the switch is activated by either sound or air pressure.

There are differences in charging rates between batteries. Is the charger you are using made for those batteries? Or are they for another brand?

sanfordf:

As to the charging rates, I've seen some chargers that output 4.2V and some that output 4.6V. The latter I'm guessing are "fast chargers" and ones you have to be careful not to overcharge with. All e-cig batts are, nominally, 3.6-3.7Vdc batteries.

When one charges a manual batt (I've never owned one) does the charger depress the switch when you screw it in to the charger?
