Mass produced e-liquid vs. small batch

Sadly, I live in a small town where vaping is new and scary! The only liquid available is mass produced $%&@. I've been lucky enough to find a few good online shops to support my habit, but what exactly are the mass produced smoke shop shelf-fillers doing wrong? Are they just using inferior ingredients or do these liquids sit too long on the shelf? Can it go bad after a while?

You get what you pay for & mass produced stuff usually tastes mass produced. Personally, I'm not a fan of any of it (if you are referring to Dekang, Hangsen, etc.) because it all tastes chemically to me. If I had to guess, I'd say it's like you said, they're using inferior ingredients. I compare it to the difference in a burger from McDonalds versus a burger off the grill in your own backyard. McDonald's burger may taste ok & fill your belly but, in an effort to maximize profit, it's made using inferior ingredients whereas the homemade burger is a whole different ballgame & not even close to being comparable.

I hear different opinions when it comes to shelf life. Some people say it's good for 2 years & some people say they are still vaping stuff they bought in 2008 & so I just don't know.

I definitely feel for you that you don't have any local shops because I know paying shipping & playing the waiting game stinks but if you're wanting good juice then it's what you gotta do & it's definitely worth it.

Oh, definitely check out altsmoke cincinnati. It is amazing!!! The tasting bar will blow your socks off. They have fairly wide range of juices, from 'budget' to 'top shelf'

Taste is completely subjective. Millions of vapers use mass produced eliquid and prefer it. 90% of all eliquid used world wide is mass produced. I don't think the ingredients of mass produced eliquid is inferior, just different. The typical shelf life of mass produced eliquid is 2 years according to the manufacturers.

You just need to do what all of us have done and keep trying different venders. Here is a small supplier who has gotten much positive play here on ECF:

There are plenty of large e-liquid labs that do a great job. Some of it is knowing the product you are buying, and knowing what needs to be done with it. I can name several juices that are horrible when they show up in the mail that become great after being properly steeped for a few days.

One thing I can assure you of; there is no shortage of different e-liquids you can try, and there are just as many that you won't like as there are that you will like.

I have just discovered Evo E liquid, I believe it is a part of the Nicopure Co. IMO they are wonderful. I have tried 5 different flavors, each one better than the last. No chemical taste at all.

I think this sums it up pretty well actually. It's not that the e-liquid is really bad it's just made to be cheap and in volume is all. There are some good mass liquids you can get that I still vape from places like Vapor 4 life and then some that are top shelf small batch like the ones I get form heather's heavenly vapes or goodlife.

It's all about what you like. I still do all my vape shopping online and usually will do sampler packs from sites to see what they like. HHV has a great sub-forum here that you can get some advice on what flavors to try.

I definitely prefer e-liquid from my local vapor shop to the mass produced stuff. However I must admit my first e-cigarette was a USB rechargeable one from cool-smoke (If memory serves...) and there were 5 different flavor cartridges to choose from. The vanilla flavor was VERY good and even now that I use an MVP with a kanger pro clearomizer and have tried lots of different vanillas I still find myself craving that brand's vanilla. Odd, because all their other flavors sucked.

Weird, I have tryed 4 of them. Two were ok, but after a week or two they were awefull (watermelon was the worst culprit) everyone tastes things diffrently tho.

1. I had very bad luck with both big and small juice companies my first year vaping. I got lucky that my first order was from Juicyliquid, now closed, their juice tasted great. They were a small husband and wife team that probably mixed in their gerage. I figured I should have a backup juice company and I spent $300 in a year trying to find it. Didnt like anything from 10 vendors suggested here. Ive been mixing my own juice with concentrates from TW for the last three years. First order of mixed juice made last week from MBV and i'm still not liking it as much as my own. I don't let my juice steep and its great. Got some of my own and MBV steeping now and will see how it goes.

I have no objection to good tasting juices either mass produced or handmade. I prefer made to order mainly because of the options I get. But if I have to resort to mass produced I can manage.
