I have no interest in the AGA. Thank you though, I know you're trying to help. After owning a DID clone, a genuine DID and a 3mL Cobra, I have to say that the vape quality is still good in the DID clone, even though it's obviously not made of the best materials or the prettiest. The DID clone worked great though and got me to step into the world of genesis when I never would have before that. I still think that somebody out there could make hybrids on a greater scale for a decent price, and all of you and I know that we would gobble them up! I wouldn't expect it to be iHybrid or Katana level craftmenship, but if a genesis (that actually works well!) can be found for less than $20 these days, surely a hybrid could be produced for a decent price!

Edit: And I would love an iHybrid especially, but right now it's just not something I can afford to buy. If a hybrid was made with a similar value in comparison to a high level genesis, I would snatch one up! I don't NEED a hybrid, it's just something i'd love to have, and i'm surely not going to drop $225+ just to own one, unless I were to trade some of my gear for one, or sell some of it and buy one with the profits.

the titanium 18500 ihybrid is coming out soon for $189
cheapest i've seen
also the NGP hybrid is cheap, although not great

I'm not sure what you're basing your assumption on...they have barely started shipping the V3's yet, so I know you don't actually have one.

Is it possible that it won't be great? Sure it is, but it's unfair to say something's no good when you don't have one. Because of the fact that it's all aluminum, I'm betting that its ease of use and conductivity will be excellent. The only downside I can see so far is that threaded tank...

If you're on the list, it will probably be shipped within a few weeks. Pretty much everyone on the list should have one by January. ;)

yes you can have cheapeis (money wise) but u have problems that the high dollar ones dont have, not necessarily all of them because there are high dollar ones with the flaws.
the dud is chrome brass, crappy threads, airhole doesnt line up. that thing should be 10 bucks
agas are a bit better, ss body but, chrome brass center pist, posts are a mile away from the wick hole, air hole doesnt line up.
on the pics of the ngp, do you see how far the posts are from the wick hole? hot spot city my friend, not saying its crap but when you pay the lower prices, thats what you have to deal with,
higher costs are attributed to the tight tolerances needed to pull off good threads, good finished, good air alignment, a good chamber setup, so on and so forth
the way a machine shop charges is by numbers, but also by the specs and tolerances the designer brings. its not cheap to have something that is flawless made.
machinist right here so im not talking out my ... hehe, congrats on getting in the list

thats the thing, wen its mass produced the chance of it not working properly is high. i also agree that quality hybrids are too expensive. what we really need is someone to build a quality hybrid and not be greedy. anything more then 100 is ridiculous

Yes because everyone knows that mass-produced things like Toshiba Televisions, Toyota automobiles and Leatherman multi-tools are total crap with a high failure rate.

And because everyone knows that highly-skilled craftsmen who have tens of thousands of dollars invested in tools and training, and are building high-performance, custom, small-quantity specialty items are only in it to rip you off with their unjustifiable high prices...

The issue with mass-production isn't that it is inherently bad, it's that for it to be economically viable, you have to have HUGE demand to set up the sort of factories that are capable of producing quality goods. Currently, there are fewer people in the world buying hybrids than are buying Ferrari's and a lot of them are cheapskates to boot, so it's just not worth it to have high-tech computerized, automated production facilities cranking out what is essentially something the quality of a surgical instrument by the thousands at a price lower than an average DVD (which seems to be what you want)...

Just sayin'...

Whether you're a machinist or not, none of us actually have one of these in our hands, so speculation about build quality, tolerances, alignments and materials is moot until they actually get delivered. The distance from the negative poles to the wick holes doesn't bother me, and won't bother most experienced genesis users...although you're right, I would've wished for closer spacing there.

I'm betting that this one will be a winner, despite the price and the questionable threaded plastic tank...If not only for the fact that it's got a blue LED in the tank and is entirely anodized black :D

...so long as I can manage to vape something other than cinnamon or pluid, lol ;)

Yeah the distance actually doesn't look that bad. Maybe there's a way to rig up a spacer if there's hot spot issues. For $100 bucks I can hardly complain that it isn't an iHybrid...

Besides, even the original NGP's have many, many excellent reviews, and from the looks the v3 is only going to be better.

you can use SS washers or small glass beads for hot legs.

I have a feeling that china, in general will start getting closer to highly functional hybrid/genesis designs soon, but not the level of craftsmanship that you find in the more expensive small batch devices.

Fully expect China to mass produce sub $50 hybrids in 2013. No doubt the success of the genesis clones have their attention.

No R&D needed. They can just rip off current designs as usual.

In the meantime, I'm good with my $30 imitation Temon.

Can I get a link for that bad boy? :)

Edit: There's your sub-$100 hybrid, lol- unless that's a custom DUD mod or something.

That's a chrome 14650 E-Power with a LR capable switch that I ground the cone to fit flush to the bottom of the dud tank.

The one below is the first one I did. Striped the scratched up black off, and cut the tube down to take a 14340. I ground down the cone too much on this one not knowing it could slip over the dud knurls like the second one I did. This one stays in my top pocket when I'm not using my Provari.

The investment to build a hybrid at any scale more than a handful a month is MASSIVE. Take a quote from a decent machine shop: About $85 each to produce from 6061 aluminum with a minimum order of 1000 units (aka you have to drop $85000 up front before even thinking of selling anything). Prototypes cost $2500-3000 each. That's JUST machining. No finishing, no packaging, no website development, no business related expenses, no business insurance, no product liability insurance, no marketing and no profit.

You could also do the work yourself. The minimum you will spend on equipment and tooling should be around $20000. If you are able to produce 100 units per month at a profit of $25 per unit...it will take you 8 months just to pay for the machine. Then another 8 months to build enough capital to purchase another machine to increase capacity. Meanwhile, you will be inundated with claims of incompetence for your inability to meet market demand or intentionally holding back production to make things scarce so you can be greedy and keep the price high.

If you think a quality hybrid can be made for $100, then do it yourself. You obviously feel it's such a lucrative business so why not throw your hat in the ring? Hell, maybe you could be the one who makes that elusive sub-$100 quality hybrid. Most of the builders out there do this as a side business anyway, so you wouldn't even have to quit your day job.
