I messed up !!! I was mixing a batch of juice and I always add the nic last. Well I wasn't paying attention and I poured the nic into my Pineapple flavoring

So there was 105ml of pineapple and I poured in 12ml of 100mg nic. I need to know how many mg of nic is in a ml of the flavoring.

I make a 100ml batch and I use the 12ml of nic to get 12mg juice and I use 8ml of the pineapple. How much do I cut the ml's of nic by?

Your help would be appreciated .... Thanks

Right now it looks to me that you have 117 ml of your pineapple/nic blend @ 10.26 mg/ml of nicotine.

To get 100 ml of 8% pineapple @ 12 mg/ml nic mix:

8.9 ml of your pineapple/nic blend
11.1 ml of your 100 mg/l nic base
80 ml of something else

Caveat: Use my suggestions at your own risk. Double check my math yourself or have someone else do it.

Ok . This is what I figured with help from the ejuicemeup calculator :

To make a 100 ml of your recipe:
80 plain pg/vg
11.1ml 100 mg nicotine
8.9ml of 10.26mg/ml pineapple flavored nicotine
****The reason you have to increase the flavoring is because not only did you add nic to the flavoring,in doing so you diluted the strength by about 11.43%. So 11.43% of 8ml flavoring originally used is approx .91 so I added .9ml more flavoring and factored the nic present in it also.
This makes final nic at 12.01mg/ml. Hope that helps.

ETA:In the time it took me to hunt and peck my reply,Jellyfish had you hooked up.

Thanks, so am I. It's just something I say when I see someone riding by on a high horse during this time of year.

I wouldn't advocate banning anybody but am riding the same horse, my friend :)

I mean no disrespect to Wharf Rat at all and understand my opinion on this is unpopular with a lot of people here but stuff like this really gives me the willies. I've said it before and it didn't go all that well but if one is working with 100mg nic I think being able to do the math is critical.

I think it's better that someone come here and get help, plus a deeper understanding, than be frightened off from asking questions.

I also think that understanding the math is critical and too many mixers depend on calculators as the sole means of mixing. So I like to encourage questions on the math as things get buried on this sub fairly quickly. I saw a good post that could help someone else avoid the mistake and good answers that covered the math involved and thought that was a good thing. I now know there are some on here that disagree with that stance.

I think this is a fair point - I don't want to see anyone skeered off either. You are as always, helpful. You certainly helped me when I first got started ;)

Hoosier,

I completely agree with you. The critical mistake that Wharfie could have made would have been not coming to ECF to correct the error that he had made. It seems to me the most important thing he understood was that he made an error and wanted to correct it...AND understood that he needed help.

Also, math is not a strong suit for many people. My wife is a very intelligent person, but some of the math questions that she ask me leave me chuckling (to myself)...but I love her anyway. I've seen many math questions here on ECF and to me the best way to respond is in an educational and supportive manner.

I also think that the calculators are nice, and they are a very convenient tool to use...even for those of us that are not math challenged. However, I think that it would be great if everyone would look behind the calculator results and saw the effect that dilution had on the nicotine content of the final product.

Over and OUT!

I've also met people who have strong math skills, but have difficulty breaking a real-world problem down into the steps needed to use those math skills. This has always confused me because I'm better at breaking the problem down for solving than most anything else. It just comes easy to me. I've been in a number of situations where I'm surrounded by technical folks who have all kinds of letters before, and after thier names, and I end up being the one to break the issues down into solvable formulas. I've never been sure if they have trouble seeing the starting point and end point at the same time, or if the magnitude of the issue causes brain freezes, but I know the folks are skilled and have the knowledge.

As for calculators, I do use one, but I always double check the nicotine amount before I draw it into my syringe and I check it again before I put it in a bottle. That's one of the reasons I like 100mg solution, it's just quicker for me to do the math in my head. Double checking and triple checking nicotine is something I wish everyone did, but I'm long enough in the tooth to know I'm probably in the minority.

How about a little forebearance here! I don't know of anyone who leapt from the womb with an a priori knowledge of arithmetic. We all had to learn from asking questions, and being taught. Get off the high horse you're on and actually assist someone towards achieving a worthy goal.
There is none so ignorant as he who will not learn from past mistakes!
I'm not going to pirate this thread further, I'm just going to continue learning
Merry Christmas, as Hoosier said!
