When we were in San Juan, we bought her a ring from the Effy store there. 1.3 carat trillion cut Tanzanite stone with 0.25 carat diamonds. We overpaid and she swears that they somehow swapped it out for a different stone or different ring when they were sizing it since the stone wasn't as deep blue as when we originally bought the ring. When we were in St. Thomas, we were at the other Effy store and she found another ring, 4 carat trillion cut Tanzanite stone with 1 carat in diamonds. They gave us a price that we agreed to and then when we said that we were going to trade in the other ring and pay the difference, they started to balk on the price. They tried to say that if we were trading in the ring, then the price would be an extra $600 on top of the extra we were going to pay. That ...... me off and I started .....ing that we should just return the ring for a refund. The shopping consultant from the cruise ship happened to be in the store at the time so he had a little chat with them and they agreed to exchange the ring.
When we were in Diamonds International in St. Maarten, they tried pushing us to get this gorgeous trillion cut Tanzanite tennis bracelet with a total weight of 26 carats. The GIA appraisal certificate showed the value of the bracelet as over $15k and they went down to $8k. My wife told them that if we had seen that bracelet before we had already bought so much jewelry we would have bought it. Maybe we'll get it the next time we take a cruise down there.
