Today is my first day vaping. I had quit smoking for a month. I started again a few days ago.

I quit smoking while still in china. It was not for financial reasons, I'm 31 and feel like death has crawled into my chest, I've smoked since a kid. In china cigarettes are cheap and ecigs look cheap. My main aversion to them is that smoking isn't merely a hit of nicotine each time my crazed brain desires it but a structure to my day, giving it a series of mini rituals. And what I had seen there was the cigarette look one. It seemed like a toy. Light, cloud of smoke, and your hit of nicotine.

That was my impression until a few days ago, that was the second day I was back into cigarettes, the first back into my cough. A toy that delivers me nicotine started seeming good. Now I have always quit smoking cold turkey. What gets me is that I am a smoker. Each time I quit I feel Mark Twain smacking the backside of my head saying you sell out. But I can no longer be a smoker as I'm too lazy to lead an otherwise healthy lifestyle. And then I saw this woman on a patio making a big pen glow blue by sucking on it and a cloud wisp across her face and I was in love.

I've been on this site since then and the community around here is extremely my kind of people. I met with Switched from JRCustomTurning today at his facilities and never felt better about buying anything. He could have made me empty my pockets selling me stuff, but I guess he figured I'd be back so he's taking it slow. He showed me how to do everything, he was patient and a sage. I saw his 50 caliber and if it ever goes on sale, I'm getting one. So you can say I'm hooked.

I think that the ritual factor in vaping is much more so than smoking. The control over the experience, the time that can be put into preparation of the consumable, the broadness of consumption methods and consumable items make for a much more individualistic experience over smoking. The social and hygienic factors join financial and health factors to make it more sensible.

But don't listen to those lies, I like the idea that people vape without nicotine. vaping is and of itself a suitable replacement to the drug. Now I'm an addict and I would much rather be a person addicted to flavored vapor than cigarette smoke.

I would like to thank everyone who posts instructive comments on this site.

I'm happy for you that you're enjoying it. I'm new to it, too. I can relate in a couple of ways. I'm also 31 and even when I quit, I still think of myself as a smoker. Guilt won't let me smoke, though. I love the way you phrased all of that and I second the "thank you" to people who know a lot more about this stuff than I do. Although I'm overwhelmed by the information, it has been really helpful.

Welcome! You're right, vaping is much more individual than smoking. It's all about choices. You can choose your nic level, flavor, even voltage. For some newbies, it can get overwhelming.... that's the reason I ended up here. Everyone has been helpful and there's a LOT of good people that have gone before us to draw information and experience from. I'm thankful that they pass on information so freely.

Hello, Meltingice! Your post really caught my attention because I also was very addicted to the ritual nature of smoking!
I'm lucky that I can vape all I want at work, so I spend a lot of my days looking like the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland!
If you're current hardware/software combination begins to irritate more than help, there are lots of variations available! This forum is a great source of info! Don't ever be afraid to ask any question and remember that whatever method keeps the analogs away is a great method!

Welcome to both of you and congrats,

Yes, vaping does have its own ritual factors. If you drip, you have the whole stopping getting the bottle of juice out, then dropping that 2 or 3 drops into the atty. If you use cartos, its the way you fill them, the time you take, ect.. There are many delivery choices.

Then there is all the different types of batteries or pv's, colors, volts or watts. Then lets not forget the drip tips that final part that sits on top of whatever you may have.

And then there is the juice selection, everything from flavorings, to the pg/vg ratio right down to which vendor you decide you like best or trying new recipes if you DIY. lol When was the last time you heard of people smoking a bacon flavored cig.
