.................. Back in the 50s cig smoking wasn't condemned even for the pregos like it is now. ...............

back in the 50's the usa was still a free country......sigh, I miss it

I had a doctor's visit last week and told her that I was going to start vaping again to get off analogs. I was surprised that she stressed that this was a way to quit but must be used as a "gateway" and must be discontinued ASAP. .............

I've seen several different PAs since I started vaping. most were thrilled with my vaping, but the last one made a face and some remark I don't remember (because I immediately blew it off). but i don't care what they think. I go to the dr for advice, not orders. I may or may not take the advice. I had to laugh because she was sure my cholesterol was going to be high - she even said when the blood work came back she would call in a prescription (which I would not have had filled anyway) I had a big laugh and an enjoyable day when the office called and said that in fact my cholesterol had gone down

I believe for me the addiction is the hand to mouth thing. I went from 18 to 12 to 6 nic rather rapidly with no issues at all. I really don't want to weigh 900 lbs so no quitting vaping for me!

I'm a newcomer, so anything I say now is very much subject to change -- but yes, I would like to quit vaping eventually. That outcome is so remote right now, though, that it's little more than a hypothetical.

As recently as a couple of weeks ago, I didn't think I'd ever quit smoking. Thanks in large part to this forum (and thanks to a week or so worth of vaping), I'm very much more optimistic.

I've quit everything else. So if I quit my nicotine I'd be lost and a product-619.jpg

Yes, I have a strong addictive personality as well :D

About 6 weeks ago at 6 a.m. I got up and ran to the bathroom and threw up blood. Not a little blood, a lot of blood. I thought, crap just what I need. I was scoped a few weeks later and I have acid reflux that I never felt and something called Barretts Esophagus, precancerous but not imminent and small chance.
So, I talked to the nurses at ER and they were thrilled that I quit smoking. Next stop me GP, his PA said good job. Then to the endocrinologists..same reaction.
BTW, if you throw up blood, call 911, like right now. OK :)

Oh, I'll never quit vaping.

Hi! New to the site and really interested in issues around radio iodine treatment and vaping. I just had treatment a week ago for Graves disease (hyperthyroid, ie too high levels) and I vape and there has been no clear info I can get about whether I should totally stop, for how long, and so forth. I have been doing it very little, and swapping the cartomisers due to the radioactivity level issues. Everything says no smoking after radioiodine but obviously vaping is a relatively new thing. Glad for any help anyone might offer. Best Regards, Geowulf

I am a paramedic who has seen first hand how life long smokers end up. I have treated severe respiratory patients and taken them to the ER with drugs on board, advance life support interventions in place, and lights and sirens blaring the whole way.

I have returned hours later with another patient to find them standing out on the sidewalk smoking a cigarette and coughing.

No thank you! I feel 100% better since quitting 6 months ago, and as long as I feel better and dont find any firm data suggesting that vaping is more harmful than cigarettes I will keep vaping. I have tried every method of quitting and always went back to smoking. I actually enjoy vaping much more than smoking. I have no plans on stopping.

I have cut my nicotine from 24% to 12% not because I needed to, but because I think the flavors are better and I can vape more.

I was a smoker for over 25+ years at 2 packs a day of reds

I quit smoking over 9 years ago ,just so I could get more affordable life insurance
I had to be a non smoker for 2 years to get qualified for the cheaper rates

I was then a non smoker for 7 years , and started vaping over a year ago

I needed the nicotine for the benefits it gives me, thought about patches, gum etc. and all was over the top expensive

A friend told me it was a dangerous place to go, and was afraid it could be a gateway back to analog

The minute I finally took a hit off a blu cig , I felt instant calming and know I needed to get back to getting nicotine

I now sleep better, my blood pressure is awesome , (never was high) but now is even better , and am healthier than ever

Yes nicotine is addictive, and yes has some negatives , but lots more benefits for me

Analog is not even a remote temptation, it stinks to me terrible bad , and no way will I go back to it

I started with junk, worked my way up to better and better stuff, found the sweet spot and loving it

No plans to stop here

I did not intend to quit cigarettes. I was an ardent smoker. I should say, they told my uncle if you dont quit cigarettes you will die. He quitted and died for another reason. I was not inteding to quit but it troubled me coughing, breathlessness and tarr from hair to toe. I thought if e-cigs are sound I would have my morning tea and smoking sessions and later I would go ahead and vape.
e-cigs won the battle and I am on vapng now ardent with vaping now. :) I dont give a damn what others think of my choices. I now have a more serious fight for vaping (and it is hard in Turkiye)
I also did not look into nic rate of my vapes. I diluted juices with VG and vaped all along. I did not consider any decrease too. But believe me sometimes I think I can get away without vaping too. Because I happen to forget it at home for a couple of hours. it is not as smoking.
Even if I feel I can leave vaping too, I will not because I love vaping more than I loved smoknig.

My goal was to quit 'smoking' period.

Vaping has helped me get off cigarettes, which I am doing pretty well with (3 months now sans one minor fall off the wagon). But it hasn't done anything for my nicotine addiction. Truth be told, it may have actually made my nicotine addiction worse, but that is a different discussion altogether.

While I am quite happy, joyous actually to be away tar, carbon monoxide, and God only knows what else from a pure health perspective, not to mention the financial and smell coefficients, I'm still in-taking nicotine and to a degree 'smoking'. One can split hairs as to whether vaping is 'smoking', which I do not intend to do here. It is more of a high level term. Sorry for lack of a more appropriate term. My point is that I am still inhaling nicotine and ????. It is also taking up quite a bit of my time (here, and searching and mail ordering juices, etc) as well as requiring some $$$ to support my new 'habit' (albeit not as much as I think a pack (or more) of cigarettes did a day).

My question is this:

Are you quite content and satisfied to be vaping with no plans to quit as opposed to smoking or is there anyone else out there that thinks of vaping as maybe a reverse gateway to quit everything altogether?

For now, I am happy to be off the death sticks. But I would eventually like to completely do away with the nicotine addiction, the oral hand to mouth habit, gain back my time and 100% of the $$$ that goes to support my habit(s); old and now new, including vaping.

What say you?

well best to progressively wean down the nico levels (tho nicotine is only as harmful as caffeine really, dont buy the bullcrap from big pharma, the anti-anythingenjoyable, and the fda.) then you can still enjoy a good vape with zero nicotine. I mean as with any stimulant, nicotine, including caffeine is not good on the cardio system, esp in excess. But nicotine is not carcinogenic. the carcinogens in analogs are the chemicals in analog smoke, as well as the chemicals from just typical combustion of organic matter. Hell, there's more carcinogens in outside air, and water than vapor.
