MBV Mt Baker Vapor - something wrong?

So after seeing the overwhelming positive feedback about MBV, I decided to give them a try. I ordered 12 different flavors, 18mg, max VG. When I received them, almost all of them (Extreme Ice & Moo juice being the exceptions) had the typical chemical/perfume smell and taste of freshly made juice, so onto steeping. Well, after a shipping question, I asked one of the very helpful guys at MBV on how to best steep their juice. He suggested that I should just simply store them in a dark place with caps/tips on for 2-3 weeks and shaking them periodically, keeping in mind that max VG and complex flavors will take longer. Well, two weeks have passed and some of them are noticeably darker. However, the intended flavors are still muted by the same overwhelming chemical/perfume taste. The only thing that has improved is the throat hit with some of them.

Anybody out there vape MBV with a similar composition (18mg, max VG) have any suggestions? I use Boge LR single coil and Smoktech DCT LR cartos if that makes a difference. I would like a faster solution as I'm running pretty low on my ADV (Moo Juice), and it was recently taken off the MBV website (hopefully temporarily). Thanks!

Caps and drippers off for a couple days, shaking periodically might take the edge off the bad flavors. How many flavor shots did you get?

I am sure moo juice will be back, it is pretty popular and tasty. It is just strawberry cream, so you could try other vendors to see if any have something you like even more. Ecblend is cheap and their dragon series is pretty highly regarded, I think one of them is the same flavor.

If you're getting dangerously low on juice, I can tell you Moon Mountain Vapor has great juices, good prices, and ship very fast. No steeping is required and they had it at my door in 2 days.

With MBV, the chemically/perfumey side is the nature of the beast. You might speed up the steep with a hot water bath though.

While I am a fan of "some" of MBV's flavors, most of them are "meh" to me at best... I regularly ordered the ThugJuice from them (was good right out of the mailbox) and a few others. Overall, most of the time its vapable, but sometimes, its like sucking on an old sock.

For the perfumey flavors, I found doing a hot water bath when I got them and then doing a night or two of no caps/ open bottles helped a bunch, but they still need normal steeping as well.

Are you using the option to add in the flavor shots? I don't know to what exact percentages MBV mixes their flavors at, but with 100% VG it always seems to need just a tad more flavoring (at least to me)

As for the new vendors, go with what you know and like, that's the best advice I can give. Read some reviews and make an informed decision. Beyond that, without knowing what flavors you might like, I can't offer recommendations.

@JL - I didn't use any flavor shots. I wanted to try it out before tweaking with different options. In hindsight, it probably would have helped with some of the more subtle flavors. I am a little hesitant with using those techniques (hot water & open cap), just because I don't want to mess around with the chemistry. But now I'm willing to give it a try.

I thought it was just me. I have heard so many good reviews of MBV liquids. But, when i tried them they were so weak on flavor. Almost like they were watered down or something. But, the price was great. So, i guess it depends on what your priority is: price or flavor. Me, I prefer flavor.

Not to sound condescending, but MBV is a perfect vendor for new vapers. Their prices, shipping, and customer service is unbeatable, but it is novice, entry-level juice, IMO. It's "get what you pay for" quality. I've had my time with MBV, but I've long since outgrown them.

Yeah, I guess I would agree with that. Their liquid wasnt bad, just tasted weak. I also agree that it's "get what you pay for quality", It is difficult to find 15ml for $4 anywhere else.

I haven't had any problems with "perfumey" but I tend to vape a lot of not sweet MBV stuff too. Can you give us a list of the flavors you got? That may help us figure out what's going on.

I think the flavor shots are a must with Mt Baker Vapor. Their juices are more watery than other's I've ordered, but seem to vape fine. But there are so many options, that I'm sure it's a chore to figure out just what works best. Sometimes, less is more... Would rather have them just figure out what amount of flavor is best, and sell that. This adding of flavor makes me wonder just how lacking the standard juice is, as I've tended to read the reviews on flavor's I'm interested in to see what other people are recommending. For me, I'm finding that 2 shots of extra flavor in a 50ml is about right on what I've ordered (1 shot for 30 ml, and 5 shots for the 236 ml).
Steeping is needed, and I find that 2 - 3 weeks with occasional shaking has worked fine.

The cool thing about MBV is they send a sample along with your order. If your order is over I think $15, they send 1 sample. I wish they would increase that to be that if you buy say $50 you get 2 samples, $75 3, etc...

My favorite flavor so far is Arnold Palmer, as it has a good mix of lemon and tea flavor, very refreshing. To my surprise, the sample I got of Fruity Hoops is pretty darn good, but I call it my morning vape, as it's Fruit Loop flavored. Prefer the sweet vapes in the morning, and smoother less sweet as the day progresses.

I haven't had any problems with "perfumey" but I tend to vape a lot of not sweet MBV stuff too. Can you give us a list of the flavors you got? That may help us figure out what's going on.

All were max VG, 18mg, no flavor shots (realizing this was a mistake now)

Extreme Ice - great from day 1, strong ice flavor (how I like it)
Hazelnut - some hazelnut overpowered by generic sweet / perfumey
Coumarin Pipe - very bland / generic sweet / perfumey
Rose Tobacco - not bad & pretty authentic, definitely used once in a long while
Vanilla Tobacco - very bland / generic sweet / perfumey
Lavender - Authentic & good to vape, but not for me
Peanut Butter - Just a little peanut butter with overwhelming generic sweet / perfumey
Moo Juice - good on day 1, perfect after a week (ADV, running low, and no longer on website!)
Peach Tobacco - very bland / generic sweet / perfumey
Cucumber Mint - cucumber decent w/ with overwhelming generic sweet / perfumey
Morning Vape - day 1 was pretty good, two weeks later - amaretto flavor is sickening
Pear - combination of perfume, alcohol & nail polish remover with generic sweet; I tried sticking it out for a carto and it made me sick to my stomach (literally) for hours

Overall, very bland / generic sweet / perfumey. Not sure if it's worth potentially wasting more money trying different things (flavor shots & more PG) or just cut my losses and move towards more universally enjoyed e-liquid (AVE, etc)

I'll keep these around and let them steep to see if that helps, but I think I'll be making an order with AVE really soon.

So I think I should take a step back a little bit and say it's not that MBV juice totally sucks (which I've been implying thus far). I just noticed my favorite, Moo Juice, was starting to get quite muted. At first I thought chain vaping had numbed my taste buds or something, because I could still smell perfectly. Well I swapped out cartos and bam the flavor was back! I gave a couple of MBV flavors a try, and they weren't nearly as flavorless as before. Overall, they were still underwhelming in flavor, but better at least. The perfume smell is still there, but I'm assuming it should go away with more steeping. I've read reviews where people had MBV steeping for a month before it matured. I do think the need to steep for more than two week is somewhat ridiculous, but for half the price, you have to make compromises.

So lessons learned for me:
MBV is cheap for a reason, but still holds value and is much better with extra flavor shots (much more hopeful than my last post)
MBV still has great customer service
Cartomizers (Boge and Smoktech anyway) only last about 3 days / 6ml of 100% VG
*boiling is a great way to clean cartos when they are gummed up but the coil is still in good condition

I agree with you about the Vanilla Tobacco. This was my first order with MBV and I am very disappointed. It is VERY perfumey to me and the vanilla tastes artificial, not rich like I was expecting. So, now I am steeping too, and hoping it improves. JD
