Hello,
I'm looking for a inexpensive basic Mech to put in my stockpile for later use. I have a basic understanding of ohms law but I don't have any intention of using it right now because I'm still pretty new to building but can at least build for my provari :) I'd rather buy it now and use it later then come around later and realize I can't get one reliably. I prefer it not to be a hybrid and would like a recommendation for a tube mod but I'm open to squonks as well. Clones are fine by me I just want something to reference while I learn more about Mech mods. And of course I want it in my stockpile for when I finally feel comfortable. I'm editing to include that I really wouldn't have any reason to ever go below .5ohms and usually go between .8 and 1.3 depending on what I'm using
Thanks in advance

I just thought of another issue.. because I don't like to vape at anything below .3 on a rda/rta and prefer .5 up is a Mech even going to work for me? I see people usually build below that is that a mandatory thing or is that because of the sheer amount of wire they're using, or personal preference...is that simply mandatory in order to get any vapor production? Questions like this is why I know I'm not ready to actually use the mech yet! I still want to have it even if the answer is yeah you have to build .1 because after all it is a just in case scenario I just want to have it because it's not as breakable as all these chips and gadgets and even if it does break it's easier to fix and I'm more likely to find someone that can do that

No, you don't have to build at .1. I vape MTL at 1.2 - 1.5 ohms on a mech!

Yes, a mech will work at those ohms. I know a lot of people who like to build .4 ohms and up.

So I have been looking at that Armageddon I am concerned though because almost everyone that has it says there's arcing since I'm pretty new to this can the effects of that be mitigated simply by making sure to clean the contact very very frequently? I know that it creates a char and residue sort of situation that can create problems with firing because it interferes with the connection. It also sounds kind of scary is there a way to prevent that from happening or is it not as big of a deal as it might seem? In general the people who are talking about the Arcing in reviews and on Reddit don't really seem to think it's more than an annoyance

Arcing isn't that big of a deal. Just clean the contact a little more frequently and all is good. It shouldn't be much of an issue at all at the ohms ranges you plan to use it at, arcing gets worse with low ohm builds.

Basisically with a mech mod your resistance in your atty is what sets the wattage. It's really not as complicated as some people make it seem. It's a balancing act at first but you'll figure it out quickly. There are alot of good people here to help out. Like many others, all I use anymore are mechs and RDAs even though I have many regulated mods, RTAs and RDTAs.

@Zaryk maybe it is the earlier version people were having trouble with. Thanks for testing that out and letting me know. I went ahead and got it even though it would have been nice to wait for another two weeks I just don't think that I'm going to be able to get anything half as nice as this device for even twice as much money let alone for $20! I fell in love with the feel and the look of my little luxotic BF that I got for an absolute steal I bet this one's going to blow me away LOL

I had to revisit this thread.

Got my two Armageddon squonkers and they are fantastic for 20 bucks. I realize that these once sold for 100 bucks more than that, but they're a steal at this price.

Solid and compact with a nice smooth finish and nice hand feel. Great quality mech squonker.

Got mine set up with an Ammit MTL RDA with a 1-ohm coil and the battery lasts for days.

While not a true mech, I've been very happy with the couple of Ehpro Armor Prime tubes I've picked up.

-Standard 510 (not a quasi-hybrid)
-21700 compatible (includes 18650 adapter)
-Comfortable side fire button
-25mm maximum tank without overhang

It has basic protections (short circuit, > 10 sec fire, reverse polarity, 5 click on/off), but it's pretty unobtrusive, a nice bypass (direct voltage) mod. The two tiny LEDs change to yellow when battery voltage drops to 3.6v (not sure when the transition to red occurs, since I like changing batteries around 3.6).

I also have some classic true mech tubes, but prefer the AP.

Here's the brass AP, next to a Skullkandy Alchemist 21700 mech squonker.

The AP is $21 at fasttech, similar prices at other places.

Edit: Added the photo. The 510/ego adapters are because I use lanyards.
