Unprotected Panasonic and Ultrafire from Fast Tech.

'Unprotected' is correct, but not ICR batteries, they must be IMR lithium ion or some kind of high drain lithium ion technology. Generally when you see the word 'unprotected' in a website battery description it will be a ICR battery. You can generally also tell it's ICR chemistry if the battery has a higher than typical IMR mAh rating. So, if all the IMR batteries rate from 1500 to 2250 mAh and you see one at 3,000, that is most often ICR.

Unprotected ICR batteries should never be used in a PV because they can explode.

I'm not quite sure what you think ICR is, so I'll tell you. They are Lithium Ion Cobalt, a safer chemistry than just Lithium Ion.

Glen, I've never come across a just lithium ion battery. Here is a page from Battery University. Table #3 is a chart of the commonly used cathode materials. Li-cobalt (ICR as you very correctly said above) is the first one and Li-manganese (IMR) the second. There are more than what they list. If there is another type that is commonly not associated with a cathode material please let me know :thumb:
