The battery's and chargers that come with those kits are generally considered to be junk. This is kind of a shame as poor quality battery's and chargers can almost be considered a safety issue, as when they fail they tend to go down in fire. You should really look at getting some AW IMR battery's and a good charger like Pila or nitecore and keep the ones that come with the kit as an emergency backup.

I also agree about sanding off the chrome plating as tmaxxking2 suggest, it did wonders for my KTS.

What grit sand paper do you recommend?

I used some 400 grit wet/dry, but it took some time. You might want to start with something like 200 to get the plating off then polish with 400 or 600.

I've also been experimenting with a brass screw and a copper rivet to completely replace the 2 piece positive pin with one solid piece, but since that takes away all the float it is tough to get the height perfect.

I use an AW (18650, 2000mAh) with my KTS+. I use big unprotected 3400s in everything else.

They are not protected, which means I have to be careful....but they are supposed to be safer than any old battery.

If they were part of a kit, and they are protected....be happy. They might not be the best, but shopping for new ones for a mechanical mod is more complicated. I put my kit together exactly the same as that ebay one! :)
