new to mods

Hey guys, I'm not sure where to post this so I apologize if this is the wrong spot. In the next week or so I will be placing an order for a KTS mechanical mod and a kick. I am planning on using a 18490 battery with the kick. The problem I have is I'm not sure wether to use a protected battery or a unprotected battery. I haven't been able to find a diffinitve answer. Some places say to only use protected and others say to only use unprotected, so I'm not sure. Any help would be great. And thank you in advance.

Use an IMR (unprotected) battery. The Kick has its own protections built in which don't play well with protected batteries.

The difference:

IMR (lithium manganese) is "safe chemistry" and doesn't need protection.

ICR (lithium cobalt) is "unsafe chemistry" and does need protection.

So when someone says to use an unprotected battery, they are really saying use a safe chemistry battery.
