Mech Mod Question for a somewhat noob!

Maybe it was something else BUT, when I went to check the voltage of my 4nine mod on my newly purchased smok ohm and voltage meter, the battery felt as if it heated up very rapidly which I felt through the bottom vent hole. Immediately I set the mod down in a safe place, let it cool then removed the battery and checked for damage. Nothing.

My question... What the hell happened?

I know it is probably a difficult question to answer but, perhaps someone can offer me a few ideas on things to check to qualify the mech mod as ok to use?

What battery are you using? brand name, mah, cdr.

Yeah, knowing what battery you are using will be very helpful for us to give you some advice. I know everyone says it, but there's no real substitute for Sony VTCs!

And what Ohm coil were you trying to use?

Sony VTC all the way, I check mine pretty often and they have never gotten warm!

At the time I was screwed into the tester (see picture with goofy finger pointing)
Battery was a purple EFest 18650 35amp battery.
2500mah

Disassemble and thoroughly clean all threaded parts, re assemble and try again.

Just so you know when it comes time to build coils and stay in a safe resistance range, the efest purple 35a battery is actually a re wrapped LGhe2 20a continuous discharged rate battery (CDR) confirmed by multiple accurate & reliable independent testing sources.

Ok, checked the threads, they look great. Used a known good VTC5 (known authentic from Hyperion Vape) using a .8 build on a plume veil and we are working nicely. Seems like this was an easy fix. Thanks for the help... I will be sure to pay it forward!

Does the center pin on the voltage adapter of the ohm reader extend above the threads? If not, you may have been shorting against the battery in the 4nine.

^^^^This. a 4nine is not the best mod for a new mech mod user due to the problem you just experienced. At least now you know!

Agree. the connector on your tester caused a dead short, and the battery vented.

Well, there was my problem. Took a look at the center pin and it was definitely below the outer collar. What a knucklehead. I should have noticed that.

Like I wrote in a previous post, always learning.

To be safe, I taped the ends of the battery and tossed it. Need some new VTC5s anyway. I need to get away from the efest stuff.
