In multiple battery devices, mechanical or not, you should always use "married" sets of batteries. Married sets are purchased new, used together, charged together, and never separated. This is to ensure that both/all cells wear, age, charge, and discharge evenly. Mismatched cells can cause problems since one of them will be "working harder" than the other one, and that can cause premature failure.

Hey guys, so I have recently acquired a hammer of god v3. From a friend. The batteries that are in it have different wraps and one doesn't work. Do I need to buy all new batteries or could I just switch the sleeping one and the one just like it with two different batteries? Sorry I'm new to multiple battery mech mods. Thanks guys.
Welcome and glad you joined. I have provided a little more information which might help choosing batteries.
