Mech users - Why?

Easy answer is-- your build decides the mec mod wattage output and battery life vs the chips (dna30) restricted output. The advantage of the chip is that is regulated so every hit is the same and you don't get battery fall off as it goes dead.

i.e. .5ohm build with fresh vtc5( 4.2Volt output) in a mec mod gets 35.27 watts to the coil- ( .2ohm build would get 88.19 watts to the coil) :vapor:
- the same build .5ohm on a DNA30 only puts 3.87volts to the coil at 30 watts which really is a far cry from really "pushing the build" (Some vape over 5volts and higher)
And of course with a mec mod you are not limited to how low you can build your coil, just always use the right batteries! Vtc4 or vtc5 are my personal recommendations.
Hope this helps:)

For me it is simple why i use a mech mod.
1] will never have to replace the unit due to a blown circuit board.
2] if i want the circuit protection and safety of a v/v v/w just add a kick to it.

.. I tried mechs with a kick, it limited me to smaller batteries and if you add the limitations of the kick, it made my mechs a lesser vaporiser than either a pure mech or a high Watt VV/VW vaporizer. So my two kicks are gathering dust.

I take it you have never heard of ProVari?...

Of course, and about the only mod that I haven't broken :p, but size (and shape) and wattage matters to me too for out and about.

My entire 18650 rig (stingray x) including a reasonably big sized Atty is smaller than a Provari body and I can vape that happily at .25 on quad coils should I choose to without an error popping up.

You were talking about durability of APVs...

First, I don't think mechs are the right gear for a new vaper.

Then: I prefer them because I like things that will last, and that I can fix. One example: I bought an MVP for my son's friend, who is of age and a smoker. Four months later he asked me to fix it, as it was not firing. His atty was fine. Looked up some instructions, and the simplest involved pulling up the pin, which didn't work. At that point, I had to remove the top bit, but I didn't have the tool. I'm trying to work on it, but it's a PITA. I wouldn't give the kid a mech mod, but had he owned a mech mod, I could have fixed it.

I've broken plenty of APV's without much bother with the exception of Provari.

Rev3, Evic, and a bundle of varying types of VV miscellaneous devices on top of, I would guess at least a dozen regular egos and ego twists.

Getting a Provari returned (and then sent back to me) from over here would not be a task I'd want to attempt, so never invested in one to "drop test".

Since I got my first mech 2 years ago the only damage sustained from even high falls been a spring needed replacing and a battery died once from a high drop, that one is still sitting beside me now as a backup or "beach" mod.

Simplicity for me far outweighs the "consistency" of a VV/VW mod at this point.

For me it's all about form and function. I've dialed in my happy spot and can Vape all day on two tanks and two batteries in my Kayfun/Nemesis clone. That's 8-9 mLs of juice from waking until bed. I have considered a regulated mod or a kick since I like my Kayfun around 11 watts.

I'm only really considering Vapor Shark dna or a Hana Modz. Considering I only paid $30 for my Nemesis clone the ~$200 for the box mod or the $45 for the Evolv Kick 2 just hasn't convinced my that it's worth the investment.

For all you mech mod users, why do you go with a mech over something like a DNA30/similar.

If you have to ask I'm really not sure how to tell you. I guess we have to do this thread over every so often. I went straight from ego rig purgatory to mech heaven 5 weeks into vaping, where I was so very happy I never wanted anything else. I did take a look at the Provari, and the Vamo, and a couple others, but this weird idea of having electronics in it and a menu on it and having it tell you how many vapes you did, time and date, ohms, watts, gps location, blood pressure, and suggested lottery numbers just didn't appeal to me. What do I need that for?

All I wanted is ONE button that fires the thing. When I build my genny I know what I have, and I don't need my.mod to tell me that, it's just plain redundant, and I'm not willing to pay for it. Further, I found my sweet spot at .7 ohm with 26 kanthal on a mesh wick, and a mech does that better, cheaper, and simpler than any regulated mod. There's a lot to be said for simplicity, and when the next vaper is lamenting his broken Vamo or whatever I'm still vaping away on my Nemesis and RSST.

I have no idea what a DNA 30 is, and I have no wish to find out either. I'm happy with my mechs. They have done everything I've asked of them, and I see no reason to muck about wasting money on some fancy electro-gizmo. I drive a car that has no chips or computer in it, and I don't want them in my vape either.

I use both, I use tanks with both and I drip with both. Mechanical mods, for me, are likes pieces of art when paired with the right atty. They certainly don't provide the same quality vape over the life-span of a battery like a DNA/regulated mod, but they sure are purrrrrdy :2cool:
