mech vs. box mod power

Yes, we're all aware of the istick 50W problems, but that doesn't apply to any mods other than the istick 50W. I could point to any number of cheap, bottom of the barrel mech mod clones from China and list a plethora of problems with them as well.



I would be willing to bet that the mech mod forum here is packed full of threads started by people having problems with them.

Sure enough, 5 threads about problems on the first page alone. And that's not counting the thread about safety concerns. Seems the claims of ultimate reliability may be a bit unfounded.

Don't forget the Cloupor, there's been a few meltdowns with them as well...and I completely agree with your assessment of the bottom of the barrel mech clones, those definitely scare me...cloud chasers running ultra-low ohm builds with inferior batteries not up to the task in combination with bad mech tolerances is a recipe for disaster.

The bottom line here is all these devices whether mechanical or regulated can have problems...shotty workmanship, maintenance neglect, pushing a device beyond it's limits, inexperience or just plain stupidity can get you in trouble.

I've been a mechanical user for almost 3 years now and loved them, the box mods never appealed to me because of their size, I don't like having something that bulky and heavy in pocket, I was one of the first 200 to buy a VaporFlask the day they were released, loved the look but not the size, not a great all day carry for me so I sold it, now that these boxes have shrunk I decided to try another, I picked up the SX and love it...while not as small as my Le Petit Gros or LBM in pocket the difference in performance has me sold on regulated...I have an IPV D2 ordered to backup the SX.

I see tons of authentic mechs being dumped at a fraction of their original price, so if you still use them it's a buyers market with some great deals to be had...I'll be keeping all mine, with the exception of my authentic MMVapors Nanos, 35 bucks if anyone wants it...SS18350 in great shape.

I go for VV/VW mods nowadays. And I don't even do RBAs, except for my currrent RBA on the subtank. As far as conccerned, the items have evolved so much that the built in tanks work very well. Mechs are more for collection purposes for me. And right now with all the advanced tools and equipment building is very easy.

Vaping was supposed to save cost and help me quit smoking. However when I was into mechs and RBAs I was spending helluva more money than smoking cigs. Right now I just go on the lazy and do RBA on my subtanks with my cheap but reliable Cloupor mini and kbox mini. What I spent in the past could easily got me a few years' worth of supplies now.

haha yeah i originally switched to vaping for lower cost, didnt even care much about the health aspect. now that im looking at mods im budgeting most of my money for vaping. i wanted to buy an aspire atlantis with the k box but the owner at the shop told me they werent compatible. now doing my own research iv seen threads of people using exactly that setup. the owner also told me i was putting my plume veils cap on wrong and then he proceeded to place it on so the dual coil slots were in front of the posts and the bottom airholes in the base were covered. he also told me an average mech mod is equivalent to a 70-100w box mod. when i first bought a mech mod about a year ago, a different shop owner gave me a paragon mod with the same plume veil im using today but didnt really tell me much about it besides how to drip it and charge the battery(i assumed it basically worked like a big ego with a removable battery). the mod ended up breaking a week later(to be fair i dropped it at one point). im starting to really distrust b and m shop owners. i mean i get now that everyone should educate themselves on this stuff first but when i got my first mech i had no idea how complicated they actually were. idk, seems like there should be some kind of accrediting organization type thing for shop owners so you actually know which shops are truly knowledgeable/responsible.

btw when your just vaping normally(like not going for clouds), whats the max wattage you guys generally use? im just wonderring whether its worth it to spring for a sigelli 100 next month or just spend the money on custom coils, more juice and a quality tank

yeah i think im going to stick with boxes from now on unless i have some really bad experiences with boxes. from what iv gathered my plume veils is supposed to be a pretty good all around dripper, iv got a .55 ohm dual coil that iv been vaping mostly around 25-30w though i feel like the taste could be better. do you have any suggestions for a better dripper?

I'm not really a dripper guy, I really prefer the convenience of tanks. That said, I have heard good things about the Council of Vapor's Arris as a flavor chaser. I understand the Plume Veil is a cloud chaser. But don't quote me. Drippers are not my thing.

Lol, and I rebuild. I like the Lemo2 and the Fogger V6, respectively a single and dual coil build tank. For pre-made coils over 1 ohm-- where I think you want to be-- I see no reason to go anywhere but the Aspire Nautilus, sold in three different diameters and capacities. For subohm, The Kanger Subtank, the Innokin iSub and the Aspire Atlantis all have their adherents. All of this is before you get into really expensive stuff. The Subtank gets great reviews and has coils available both above and below one ohm, so you can pick where you want to be.

also, i keep seeing people mentioning fastech for parts, im on there now but im wonderring how cheaply made these atomizers really are. like $5 for a deringer rda. i guess its now much to waste if it doesnt end up working but can a badly built rda mess up a box mod?

here's the thing about unregulated vs regulated, if you have a 0.25 ohm build and your batteries are sitting at 3.9v, you're vaping at a little over 60w. Generally speaking, you need to have a better quality regulated mod to do that. A DNA 40 won't get you there. A single battery sx350/j won't get you there.

Today, yes there are a lot of regulated mods available that can give you this power output, but even a few months back, not so much. Yes, an unregulated mod will output less with decreasing battery charge. I think if you are an advanced vaper who is knowledgeable about ohm's law and battery safety, unregulated is always going to have its place. They're simplicity itself, with less to fail than a regulated device. You can certainly get a quality unregulated box for much, much less than a _good_ regulated box will set you back.

Safety first, I think we shouldn't be recommending unregulated to anyone. The vapers who find unregulated vaping a good fit for them will come to it on their own, and they'll be ready for it.

i have a nautilus that iv been using on and off but i definly want a subohm tank. just cant decide between the atlantis vs. the subtank, or possibly going the route of a kayfun/russian 91 since i keep seeing alot about them

I wouldn't go the russian route. You can't touch a real one for hundreds of bucks, and the clones aren't really geared for subohm. Neither are they cloud makers. The draw is very tight. They are also rebuildables. If you want to rebuild, and clouds is where you want to go, get the Lemo2. Breathes better than any other tank I have. I'm vaping one now, with TC wire on my Snow Wolf at 425 degrees and 40 watts. Moderately decent clouds, for sure.

Not too long ago I destroyed Mrs. Dr.'s k4 clone and needed a new tank for her. Authentic Russians were on ebay for around $65-70. I opted for a Lemo Drop, which vapes a little hot for her. I should have got the Russian.

idk id feel pretty sketchy buying any kind of product that is sometimes faked off of ebay, iv heard way too many people talk about getting ripped off on everything from batteries to baseball cards
