That was going to be my next question; How do you know when the battery is getting close to the max drain with a mech mod? Looks like it's when the vapor/taste isn't what it should be (or what you think that it should be)?

Back in the day, voltage drop off was blatantly obvious; used higher ohm coils. With a good 1.2 ohm coil build, drop off is less obvious because instinct causes you to press button longer to get good vape. If you pay attention you can get a feel for lower batt voltage. My 11-21-11 18350 batts still perform good; 3.58v after vaping 2ml aqua dry. My new 18350 are 3.66v after vaping aqua dry. Apparently draining batt just below 3.2 volts a few times doesn't do significant damage.

What no one has talked about is the inherent trade off with respect to tweaking your mechanical. I'm NOT complaining because the look justifies it. Without ECF I would have never been able to tweak my mechanical the way I wanted it. Expect to spend some time tweaking as opposed to the ProVari which is really bolt and vape. BOTH have their place but YOU should understand these issues before you take the plunge.

HTH

Don't have to much waste time tweaking if you copy a good build from YT or ECF.

Seems that the consensus is that RDA's are best for a mech mod without a kick and if you're going to use other toppers on one then they are better with a kick?

Pretty much. You really don't want to subohm a Kayfun or Russian.

If you're dripping then yes, run without a Kick. If you're subohming then definitely run without a Kick.

If you're using any kind of tank (including cartotanks) then throw a Kick on it to regulate the wattage output.

Still waiting on my 3.1 clone, sounds like I need to get a RDA to take advantage of my Hcigar Caravela?

Get a Trident clone. If you like Hcigar, they make excellent Trident clones. Less than $30.

Very user friendly, and they work REALLY well. Great little thing to have if you want to try different coil builds or sample a bunch of flavors without having to strip, clean, and rebuild your Kayfun.

Thanks emus. I tinkered a little with the Caravela on Monday evening when I got it with one of my aero's on it. Can't wait to get the 3.1 in and built to try the combo out. I will probably shoot for around 1.5 ohm on it.

Your welcome.
I have some 1.5 to 1.6 ohm builds and batt drop off is more obvious.
1.9 ohm is no bueno IMO.
1.2 is my overall fav.
1.0 may take over as fav but seems to sap 18350 pretty quick.

Have looked at the Hcigar Trident and will probably get one. Will also probably get a Hcigar Nemesis as I've read that the Caravela doesn't allow a kick so easily.

Of course you are correct. When I said "tweaking" I was referring to my nemmy clone and not the build. :) Change toppers from say a KF to a Patriot dripper and you need to fiddle a little.

With a kick 2 your vape "pulses" and does not fire properly when your battery is depleted. As others have said, you already know when it's time to change batteries from your previous vaping experience. Call it habbit but you just know. Carry an extra bat if your out and about for safety.

With my Patriot RDA the "hit" is slightly more intense with my nemmy clone. The same hit with the KF gaggle.

My journey setting up my nemmy clone. Great help from ECF with lots of very very experience folks willing to take me under their wing:

I have a 2.2 ohm coil sitting on top of my Caravela with an 18490 in it. In fact I haven't done a sub ohm build in over a year. Hell, just use the same stuff you were using on your Reo.

I will be tinkering quite a bit once I get going. At this point I don't see myself wanting to sub-ohm so I will be staying 1.0 and above.

I have wire, cotton, mod. Just waiting on the dam* Hcigar 3.1 that was ordered at same time as mod (different vendor) but is scheduled to deliver four days later. Both from Cali... Grrr

My aero's have stock coils in them and am looking forward to seeing how much better the taste is with a built coil on the 3.1.

Currently using Itaste MVP, VV, and VTR.

my daily vape gear is provari and an original kayfan lite plus . when i bought the first mech mod i was expecting an update in my vape experiences . I was disappointed . I vape at 10 watt and the provari is much better for my need . I am lucky that i got the clone and not the real one .

me on the other hand, I love mechs. I barely use regulated devices. I sold my Dicodes Dani. Only a DNA30 could make me happy ;)
