New deck

We have changed the deck in the Merkava for easier set up, so now it's more friendly for beginners.
We added a special bridge for the cotton, so the cotton should be placed between the chamber and the bridge"

Soooo the Red bits are, I assume, the bridge. The Blue square part is also a lil different in that it hasn't been milled out so now stands up from the deck.

What is the purpose? I think our version is much neater!

The one with the Red circles etc is the new one. It seems that the only reason they did it was to make it "friendly for beginners". So no performance benefit. I haven't found the Merkava to be difficult to build or wick so I don't really know why they did it......

I agree, I prefer the flat deck.

Oops I didn't see the extra page of posts! I'm still not sure to be honest? :)

I guess my photo obscures all the bits we're trying to see!

I'll check more closely when it is taken apart again

I will say that mine was produced only a couple of weeks ago, so unless chell announced that in the last week, i would think surely I must have it?

I also received mine recently and didn't get the updated design. From my experience thus far, I would have liked to have the bridges. I found it's tricky with cotton at least to put the wick exactly in the right place. I will try rayon as soon as I get to my local shop. Here was my third attempt at wicking which seems to work okay.

I made a drawing from the side which shows how the wick needs to start high up, and be pushed down the side channels only. When you open the fluid control, it's of course impossible to see if the pressure of the liquid in the tank is too much for the wall of wick. Flooding is then a matter of trial and error.

Thats great! Im having a little bit of trouble getting the wicking right. On reflection, the new deck design would have been great to have. Oh well. Still a nice atty!!

One thing is that I dont really get the point of the loose fitting oring around the bottom of the deck?!?! Havent tried without it as I guess its there for a reason...The only thing I can think is to make sure the JF is really turned off for top filling...

I took mine apart completely for ultrasonic cleaning, and when I put it back I had an o-ring that I could not find a place for. It didn't seem to fit right anywhere. I just carried on using it without it, with no problems. That must be the same one you guys are talking about

I thought it went around the base, with the airflow control, as there's another groove there - but having two rings there made it impossible to open the AFC with the tank back together.

So where are you guys saying it goes exactly?

PS. No problem with wicking/flooding on mine so far. I just cut a wick that filled the channels both sides, flush with the outer diameter, and seems fine..
