Mesh setup for drippers?

What the best way to do this? I've just got mine set up as a small piece of mesh hanging above the well. I'd like to set it up so that the mesh goes into the well. I've seen pictures where the mesh is wrapped around. How would I make a mesh coil that is flexible enough to wrap around the well?

I braid a couple of strands of rolled up mesh and use it like silica or cotton.

To get a flexible wick you need to cut the mesh at 45 degree angle before you roll it. What atty are you using? I do a mesh "slug" wick in IGO-L sometimes, it works really good.

If you look at your mesh, you'll notice it has grains. Cut your preferred size of mesh so it has those grains going diagonally across the mesh, then roll it like you normally would (square).

That brings on a different question: do you get a lot of waste this way? Would it be less if cut normal and rolled corner to corner?

I think I tried that once, and found that the wick is not uniform... the wraps spiral inwards from the ends, which end up being thinner than the middle. There'd be alot of edges and frays to deal with which might give you hot spot nightmares. But I guess there's no reason you couldn't try it. And yes, there is some wasted mesh.

I just did this. I had some 2x2 inch 500 mesh and I basically cut all 4 corners to make it a smaller square and rolled that. Here are the results. unloaded, thanks so much for that missing piece of the puzzle. Who woulda thunk?

Also, after you roll the wick and then form the bend, torch the bend and it will lock into shape.

Glad you got it going. I can't take credit for the idea though, it used to be mentioned more often when lots of people were using U wicks. I don't worry about wasting the corners because once you make the wick it will practically last forever.

I find a well formed u-wick to be a very beautiful thing. But to be honest, I have one going right now on my AGA T2, and I really don't find that it adds a whole lot to the performance. But on a dripper, it's a fine vape.
