MG Question

Hi again y'all :)

Hope everyone had, or, (for you guys in the Northern hemisphere) is still having a great weekend.

I have a question about MG's for juice as I have been reading around and saw a few posts about nic strength that have me worried.

I smoke 20-30 16mg cigs a day - I have been on the heavy duty stuff for years now.

consequently, I ordered 'high' nic strength on all the juice I have on order - but I have seen some posts here that say that this is way too high even for heavy smokers.

Does anybody use the high-nic (18-24mg) stuff? Have I made my first rookie mistake here and should I quickly reorder some lower level stuff?

And/or, is there a way to dilute the nic levels? I know I saw some unflavoured juice with 0 nic for sale on an Aus website - would that be what it is used for?

I purchased 12 mg and 24 mg of the same flavor and figured I could mix them if I needed too.

You can always lower the nicotine content of a liquid but more difficult to increase. Simply add a few drops of VG will lower the nicotine content. It will also decrease the amount of flavoring, but if you don't add too much VG, shouldn't be an issue.

It's difficult to say - I personally know someone that needed 36 mg. for the first two weeks but quickly dropped down.

I was a fairly heavy smoker and started with 24. I even had some 30 for 'those times'. Listen to your body.

I smoked pretty strong analogs for the last 5 years (rolled my own with pipe tobacco) and I started at 36mg juice. I was not vaping as much at first due to a crappy tasting juice that I picked up at the B&M where I bought my first setup, but as I have gone to better flavors that I vape more often, I have dropped to 24mg for the most part. With 12mg juices I tend to chain vape which only works when I am not at work.

Everyone has a different tolerance and addiction to deal with.

Let me add that I did smoke for almost 20 years, everything from Lucky Strikes (unfiltered) to Camel Turkish Royals/Golds and Camel Wides. The size of tubes I used for the last 5 years were longer than the wides but with the same diameter.

Thanks folks .. I guess it's another one of those 'how long is a piece of string'? questions. It wouldn't matter so much if I could just walk to the store and buy some lower MG or 0 MG juice if it proves to be too strong - everything needs to be ordered, and waited for!

Taowulf .. you sound hardcore ... hehe .. I like it!

I think the general guidelines are just that - guidelines. Myself, I was a 2 pack a day smoker for over 40 years. The last few years, I had gone to ultra-light cigarettes, and I think based on that the vape shop sold me 18 mg.

It worked, but just barely. I didn't smoke, but had vague anxious feelings. I got some 24 mg. and it is just perfect for me. Immediately upon using it, the feelings disappeared and I've been totally comfortable with it ever since.

If you are unsure, maybe get a bottle of a couple of strengths and just try it out to see what works for you. Good luck!

I read that different people can take nicotine differently. I started at a higher nic level so that their was no possibility that I was getting what I needed. I moved downwards rather quickly. Doing it over again, I would get one high nic bottle of juice, just one. Get another lower nic juice, just one. Try them for a couple of days to determine nic needs by seeing how far apart my urges are. After that, order as needed.

Just me.

Haha, I don't know about hardcore. I went to making my own because the state of Washington jacked up the taxes to where I was spending $70 for a carton of cheap smokes that wouldn't even last me two weeks. A one pound bag of tobacco and 500 tubes cost about $40 and would last me 3-4 weeks. Usually 3.

I do not miss the time I used to spend making analogs, now I spend that time on Skype with my girlfriend...and when she moves back here, she will appreciate the fact I do not smell like an ashtray. She has never been around me when I was not smoking. :)

What Caridwen said is very true... it's a very individual thing, how much nicotine you need to vape; it's not always what you might think, because smoke and vapor absorb so differently into the body, and because you can usually vape more often than you smoked, if you limited yourself to only smoking outdoors. I smoked about a pack a day, had smoked 2 or even 3 pks a day at one point, but had to cut down purely from economic reasons. And I smoked for a very long time, 39 yrs. The first ejuice I got was 18mg, but it made me nauseous, and so did 12mg, because I can vape constantly, indoors, and like Peeps up there, I just love the puffing, I was a serious chain-smoker before I had to start taking it outdoors. So I had to finally determine that 8mg is about all I can tolerate on a regular basis, though 10mg is good for when I first wake up. If I worked, and had to limit myself to "vape breaks" I would probably use 10mg-12mg.

But it really is very individual; try some different levels and see how they strike you -- give each one maybe an hour or two, to really know how that level will make you feel.

Welcome to vaping! It's a whole new world!

You won't pass out. You'll know when you've had too much. Just stop vaping for a bit. Same as with cigarettes.
We don't get nearly as much nicotine vaping as smoking.

I found when I vaped lower nicotine (when I started) I vaped much more than I wanted too and all of the flavoring made me feel a little queasy.

That's interesting (the vape/smoke comparison) ... I have only tried vaping a few times using my ex's rig and I have no idea what he had loaded in that thing - I didn't know there were choices so I never asked - and calling him up to ask him now .. well, I would rather crawl thru the bottom level of hell quite frankly ... hehe

I smoked 2+ PPD of Camel 99's for what seemed like forever. Never was a lights fan. Seemed like diet cigarettes to me. I started at 24mg juice and it was the sweet spot for me. Just for reference. Hope this helps!

It does!
I am also a die-hard fan of dirty, strong tobacco - never understood peeps who could smoke lights ..

Yeah, I know analogs are more expensive elsewhere...if I had been working my old job that I had up until 2008, the price hike would not have bothered me...but I was making less than 1/5 of what I did up until 2008 and the price doubling over a few years put an end to my buying from BT at an end. If I had stuck with the Camel Turkish Royals I loved it would have been closer to $80 every week and a half.

At least the Washington State Supreme Court struck down the legislature's attempt to jack up the tax on pipe tobacco as well. But those days are over. Haven't had an analog in almost 4 weeks now and no desire for one at all.

Congrats on 4 weeks! That's great! :D
