Tried a micro coil build on mini PT2 on a MVP2

Used 28 gauge (.30 mm) A1 kanthal 8-9 wraps 1.3-1.5 ohms, on a 2mm screwdriver

Torched it with a lighter and tightend it with tweezers.

Installed, dryburn until glowing red and thighten with tweezers till i get uniformed glowing from the midsection and out.

Installed 2mm woven cotten wick and saturated with juice.

Reassembeled mPT2.

at 8,5 watts I was getting greate flavour but halfe way thru the tank I get burnt taste (realy awfull)

Dissasemble mPT2 and find burnt wicks.
removed wick, and dryburn.

Problem is dryburning "cold" coil it starts gloving red from one side before the whole coil glows red, when I dryburn again it starts glowing from the midsection and out.
After letting it cool for about 15 minnuttes and dryburning again it starts to glow on one side before the rest is glowing red. Dry burn again and it starts glowing from the midsection and out.

Question is if its suposed to glow from one side when the coil is cold or should the glowing be uniform no matter what the temprature of the coil is?

If it's a proper micro it should be uniform , from the middle out every time .

+1 try and look for an overwrap that can sometimes happened while squeezing to bunch the wraps up tighter may not even notice given the small wire size. I use a magnified headset when building and inspecting coils since my eyesight is failing me.

If you dry burned after assembly of the coil you might have stuffed the coil too tight with cotton pinching coils together. Try good old cotton balls. It should fit nice, not too snug, if will expand when juice soaks in.

I like 30 at 1.6-1.8 and only use 28 in dripper. I also use 1/16 drill but at 7/8 wraps with 30.

It will get easier as you get a couple under your belt.

The side that is not glowing initially is shorting out. If you can separate the wraps a little on that side, you should see it glow more evenly from cold; when the coil is warmed up, expansion probably separates the coils just enough to no longer short.

Thanks for the reply everyone.

I think thats exactly whats happenig.

Right now i have popped a premade factory coil inside. Ordered 30 and 32 gauge wire from pink mule, and will try again when I recive the new wires.

Thanks again.
