Hi All,
Just thought I'd share something that I came across last night...

I'd made a few coils before, but that was only to see if I could make a coil that actually works. So, I decided to spend about an hour practicing micro coil making last night, since I'm very new to the procedure. I had a bunch of, what I consider, failures at first. Ohms a little too high for my liking, funny shapes, etc. Someone in another post had suggested torching the coil after it was made, and crimping it together with some pliers in order to get it tighter - taking the spring out of it. I got the idea to anneal the wire (burn it with a lighter) BEFORE I started wrapping, to take the spring out of it. It made a TON of difference. On my second attempt, I had a 2.0ohm micro coil, using 7 wraps of 32g Kanthal. I still torched it again and used the pliers, but it held very tightly that time. The Kanthal that I ordered from Temco says that it's "annealed", so I didn't think that I'd need to anneal it myself, but it turns out that you do.

Also, I've been touting this for a couple days now in several posts about cotton wick: I've been using butcher's twine as my wick material in my EVODs and Protank Mini. I'm not sure how well it works in top coil assemblies, or rba/rda's, but it's absolutely amazing in BBC's. I haven't tried cheese cloth yet, as others have suggested, but I have tried the #6 Peaches & Cream yarn from Wally-Warts. IMO, the butcher's twine blows it away.

I have been using micro coils in all of my BCCs. I make the coils using either 11 or 12 coils of 28g kanthal wire around a 1/16 bit that I have. I burn the wire before wrapping it and then squeeze it between some pliers after that and torch it. Keeps everything very well put together and they usually turn out around 1.3 to 1.5Ωs. For a wick I use makeup pad removers rolled to fit and it vapes like a champ. Flavor is great and it seems to increase the TH over the previous 32g kanthal that I was wrapping at about 2.4Ω. They work great on my Spinner for out and about usage!

Best tutorial I've seen:

Note to self: Do close up videos on a more stable surface...

Still learning.

I didn't mention a lot of variables, just the basics of my coil building method, of late. I'm converting a guest room that has gone unused for over five years into my vape workshop. I plan to do some other videos and probably a better coil making video once I have my work area set up :)

Hey thanks for the repost lctrc! :)

I really should have mentioned some safety considerations that someone new to rebuilding might not be aware of.

Please, if you are new to rebuilding do your due diligence and read everything you can about how to rebuild safely. Be aware of your coils' resistance, be aware of how to check for shorts, be aware of the rated limitations of your battery, etc, etc.
