you thread the tip of the luer blunt with the cottonno? 17g

i got some 27 too and i'm going to go for about 10, 11 wraps.

gonna look up the ID of the 17....

No, I thread it straight thru the coil. The small bore needles don't work for this technique too well. The smallest that worked for me was a 14 ga :)

REALLY? please double check. Thanks, fullsleeve :)

I ohm'd it a few times just to be sure and I got a really nice dmm. that was only my second coil. ohm'd using positive lead on positive terminal and negative lead on thread of atty. still learning about this stuff but I read on one of these threads that's how to ohm it

This is a great idea! I'm perfectly content with my Rob coil -- for those going the micro-coil route, this thread will be very helpful. :)

Glad I'm not the only one (besides Rob) who is content w/ Robcoils!

In the spirit of the thread here's mine:

Wire Type & Gauge: 30ga kanthal
Coil size (what you wrap it on): Doubled-over 3mm silica
Number of Coils: 4
Measured Ohms of coil: 1ohm

(Don't laugh....It vapes great!)

RM2 on Mini 2.0
11 wraps pulled really tight while wrapping.
30 ga Kanthal
~1/16 screwdriver
1.78 ohms

RM2 on Mini 2.0.This is the best tasting of the five I built yesterday AND it is the one where I cut the juice by 1/8 bottle using VG this morning. I have about 9 hours on it. I think it is 11 wraps, 30 ga, on ~1/16 screwdriver, wire pulled really tight while wrapping. No fiddling after by heating and squeezing coils together. 1.78 ohms. Tail on left does not go into cup although it looks so in picture. Right tail just barely touching cup. Very sweet FSUSA 50/50 double shot Butterscotch Almond (cut with the VG). Checked cap hole and it is significantly closer to left post than right, from center of posts.

I think I'm in first stages of confirming that position of cap hole and position of coil are making a huge difference for my coils and juice taste with my RM2s.

Also, perhaps the added VG is keeping coil from gunking so fast.

{edit} Rolled cotton wick was tiny when I inserted it. I juiced it up before putting cap on as it was so loose in coil. This picture taken after about 9 hours vaping on it. It's amazingly not the usual gunked up. The more experience I get under my belt, building microcoils and rolled cotton wick, the less often I'm needing to dryburn coil and change wick, same few juices, except this one has a bit more VG than normal. Before microcoil and rolled cotton I had to dryburn once or twice daily with silica wick, non-microcoil (I'm not sure if that was a "standard coil" or not .) I'm getting two full days out of microcoils and rolled cotton. Most usually vape around 1.5-1.7ish on mechanical REOs.

Tails on this one longer than my favorite tasting above. Not sure where cap hole lines up with coil.

In freaky like that too :). Nope, dont wet the cotton - I wet a bounty and use it to wet my fingertips. Usually you will have to trim the very tip (stray fiber) that protrudes from the pointy end of the twisted cotton :)

Now, ya' see that there? That's precisely the difference between me and the Supe. I just lick the palm of my hand. :p

Purradise (NETN)
Wire Type & Gauge: Kanthal 30g
Coil size (what you wrap it on): Supe's 17g needle (Thanks Supe!)
Number of Coils: 10
Measured Ohms of coil: 1.9

I like a cool vape and am using these on minis that take 14500 batts and a hornet RBA.
Apparently, after comparing and measuring with a ruler (too lazy to go dig out the micrometer), my paperclip leg I always use is pretty darn close to the 17g needle.

Yes, I 'shopped the pic a bit to make it a little clearer. I'm also too lazy to deal with my camera that would take better pics than my iPhone.

I followed Super X's recipe--
14 wraps of 27 g. Kanthal A1 on a 17 ga. luer blunt needle. Made the mistake of doing it right after 4 cups of coffee this morning and I know better than to build a coil then. As if my dexterity isn't already a bit.......shakey.
Anyway, in spite of all that, my coil turned out very nice. Metered at 1.3 ohms and is the best vape I've had to date. I was pretty scared of trying to thread the cotton through that tiny orifice but it only took a few trys and it was a done deal. Fun stuff!:)

Thanks, Russ. I owe so much of my progress to you and Statistic. I'll get my good camera out and figure out how the macro thingy works again and get a pic here sometime.:)
