Many vapers run their batteries at above the continuous discharge rating (CDR). How hard can we run them and still be relatively safe? Are we able to pick a number? Or are we forced to stay below the CDR because we can’t really know. I take a look at some of the issues and science involved with deciding how hard we can run our batteries.

As, always, a well thought out, informative and educational video.
Do you have a paypal account or any other way that one could donate to support your work?
And also, have you ever considered doing Battery charger's reviews?

I’ll PM you regarding supporting my testing efforts as I don’t want to violate any rules here. Thank you!

I probably won’t be doing any charger testing due to the amount of time it takes and the huge number of questions I would get each day on top of all the ones I already receive.

"I'm careful when I discharge, I keep the wraps intact"

    Teehee...

    Good video as always.

When I first used a mech mod I used another mod to measure resistance and it said 0.22ohms. When I got a ohm reader a few days later I checked and it said 0.08 so I changed it straight away. I've never gone that low since but I do miss how nice a vape it produced, but I can stick within the CDR and be happy 95% of the time (the other 5% I use a regulated device).

When I change my batteries its because they aren't hitting hard and don't seem to have the same capacity - it's hard to tell though because if I would change/charge a new battery when it's down to 3.7v and with a battery that needs replacing it feels like its at 3.8v from the get go I just wont use anywhere near as many mahs prior to charging. I've never seen my charger say that these batteries aren't getting to 4.2volts though. This could mean that my charger is overcharging them when they're old, it says 4.2 to mean "full" or that I am actually just replacing them soon enough that the reduction in maximum voltage isn't occurring. Which do you think is most likely? I'm using an Xtar VC4 if that helps.

    Sorry, I don’t understand.
Are you asking if your batteries are wearing out and, if so, that the charger should be showing you that by not charging to as high a voltage?

Sorry, I must have phrased that badly. I guess that is what I'm asking - I've never seen a battery charge to less than 4.2V. Is my charger (Xtar VC4) displaying 4.2 to mean the battery is full even if the voltage is actually less than that, or have I just been replacing them before they reach a level of degradation that would cause the maximum voltage displayed to be lower than that? If the latter then I'm quite happy but if the former then I'm glad I stick to the CDR!

I don’t know how your charger handles end-of-charge, if it rounds up the voltage to 4.20V or not. Some chargers do stop “early” due to changes in the cell though as it ages.
