If only using the Mini, I find about 4 hours. I vape a lot. You might find a shorter period of time before they drop off and you need to pull them. Remember they should not go below 3.5 to get the best life out of the battery.
I would think 4 is a good number to have on hand if you will be using only the Mini. If using the Mini and the Grand, then two should do. I hope you are buying the AW IMR 14500 3.7v 600mAh? They are the best!

I seldom vape the mini by itself (or at all actually) :) so its hard for me to say and it varies for each person.

But I have a good idea that its 1/3 of what you would be currently getting on your grand.

ie 12 hours on the grand = 4 hours on the mini.

The mAh of the AW IMRs for each would indicate a bit more than 1/3 ...... but in my experience I'm always thinking .....
"Are you kidding me? I just put this battery in there !!!"

IMO, once you go 18650 its very hard to go back to 14500 for anything but a second device or short trips.

But I must be wrong because some people only use their minis.

Why is that? Battery life? Do the mini and the grands hit the same? Thanks.

Mostly the batteries. The Mini gives a great hit. With the same 3.7V battery. But the battery dropping off so much sooner in the Mini is just too much for some people. I can get the same vape from both with fully charged batteries and the same atty's.
Atty's play an important part to in the battery life. Go with the low resistance atty's and your battery will run down faster.

I vape 2.0 ohm boge cartos or 1.8 ohm attys on my grand and mini wood. In general I vape about 4mls of juice while at work (i vape my other 4 or 5 when I get home on the woodvils).

I can vape until after lunchtime on the grand (@ 6hrs) and then a second batt until i get home (@6hrs). I swap my mini batts once before lunch (3 hours) and once after lunch (3 hours) and one in mid afternoon (3 hours).

So I guess my answer is... about 3 hours.

Something to consider is that its easy to get spoiled and start changing batteries on the mini long before they need to be swapped. I carry 2 extra batteries with mine and go through all 3 batteries for one bottle. In the beginning, I know I was using about 1.5 batteries for each bottle. I use Boge 2.0 cartos with mine.

It never hurts to swap the battery before it's performance drops off. I vape around 3-4 ml per day and the following is referring to AW IMR's. The below times are with a 2.1-2.3 Ω 510 atty:

I generally get around 3-3.5 hours on my mini before it drops below 3.9v, and I switch.

When I'm using the grand (which is most of the time), I mostly have to remind myself to swap a battery after 10-12 hours. Rarely, I'll notice vapor production or "tendency to flood"™ at around 10-12 hours and wonder for a second: "Is it time to swap my battery?" Then I think "Who cares?" and go ahead and switch it.

When I used the mini exclusively, I had 4 batteries in rotation (figuring 3 would suffice in the event of losing a battery due to failure). I have 5 batteries for the grand, and rotate through them religiously, having numbered them specifically so I could keep track.

As noted above, it's easy to get spoiled and swap before you need to. When I lost power during hurricane Irene for 2 days, I easily got by with one 18650 per day. I have no doubt that in a pinch, I could get through a full day on 3 14500's, recharging them while sleeping.

It looks like everybody changes their batts at a different pace aswell, I get through atleast 3 batts a day but I only vape 3mls a day while some seem to go through more mls. I do change the battery as soon as the power seem to wear off though. I have 5 batterys, I use an rotate 4 in pairs of 2 so I charge them evenly then I have the fifth for when they are going bad so I have a spare while waiting for new.
