Hey guys/gals,

I've rebuilt a mini protank heads and it has developed burn marks on the rubber grommet and I was wondering if there is anyone who sells replacement grommets or do I just need to chuck it and just keep the rest as spare parts for rebuilding other ones (like if the center post goes flying across the room and I need a spare).

I've rebuilt the one with burn marks several times and I'm just not getting rid of the burnt rubber taste so I purchased some new ones and before I chuck it I was curious. I'm guessing there is no way to get rid of the burnt rubber taste once you've burnt the rubber piece. I've picked up a couple extra heads cause I figured this one is pretty much a lost cause.

I'm rebuilding a second head right now and I think I'm going to go with shorter dry burn pulses. Also, the coil is supposed to glow from the inside out right?

Thanks
John

PT heads are about $1 each so probably not worth pursuing parts.

Only guaranteed way to avoid burning the grommet is to use nores/res/nores wires, will be a non-issue in the near future as it appears Kanger has replaced the rubber grommets with a heat resistant silicone (?) one in its new heads.

Unfortunately, you cannot buy the replacement rubber grommets. If you keep your rebuilds around over 1.5 Ohms, you should be able to get a few rebuilds out of one grommet. I just recently had the EXACT same thing happen to me. I rebuilt my coil using a burnt grommet and it was SO GROSS! You can also use non-resestance wire soldered to the kanthal for excellent results (or so I'm told) but it's not worth the hassle in my book. After a few rebuilds, and the grommet is worn out, chuck it and rebuild a new one. Happy vaper trails to you!

I've been rebuilding them with 32awg wire and I get about 2.2ohms. I've not had much luck with finding any replacement rubber grommets either. I guess once it is burnt then its done since the air passes through that piece it would be hard to get rid of it. Oh well, I have a 5 pack on the way. My vape budget is quite small so I'm trying to get a little extra millage out of these coils.

I'm excited about the new heat resistant insulators, I'll have to see if I can find some of those.

So I rebuilt the one coil I had that didn't have burn marks and I decided to dry burn this one but with a lot shorter bursts and the coil right off the bat glowed from the inside out so I thought this would be a good one. I didn't get a bad smell from it so I loaded it up and of course it has a weird taste to it as well. No burnt rubber taste but still not the same as the factory ones. I did torch the silica wick and the kanthal before the dry burn so I'm not sure what is going on there. I think I'm going to try my hand at a some micro coils with cotton wick and see how that turns out. I'm going to keep trying as I think it is worth it to me and plus I'm a tinkerer of sorts so it's cool to me.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
