Hi,

I joined the forum a couple of weeks back and have run into hiccups with my eGo style vape pen.

While I haven't went back to a cigarettes since starting, the flavor experience from the pen is bad. The coil resistance is 2.4 ohm. I use 9 mg nic with 70/30 vg/pg ratio liquid.

The vapor production is acceptable, but there is only just a faint hint of flavor. Is this normal with these pens ?

Thanks

Is this what you have?

The "topper" should last about 7-20 days, depending on how sweet the juice is and the QC of the original unit.
The unit is older and much less efficient than what is available today. IMO, 9mg/ml is too low in the device pictured.

Do you have a vape store locally?

Cheers

I also quit using Egos. I didn't realize how muted the flavor was until I upgraded my equipment. The problem with those is what you put on top and most of the atties that go on a pen type have such little tiny coils and very small amount of of cotton. It doesn't take long until your flavor will die off, especially using a high vg mix that you are using. Change out your coil head in your atty, or use another one if it's not a replaceable head type and see if your flavor improves.

I started out with a Kanger top box mini, bought the batteries and some e liquid. Same result I didn't get any flavor, I could see the vapor but no flavor. I ended up also getting the Eleaf Pico and got some flavor from that setup.
Back to the Kanger, I used 18 mg nicotine and that was able to keep me off the tobacco.
Quite a while ago I began making my own e liquid, I've been staying with the tobacco flavors and this help quite a bit also. The Pico is very popular and is still being sold. Hang in there and use the vaporizer to stay off the tobacco while you look for a solution.

This part will last about 7-20 days. It should be replaced if flavor, vapor or performance decline.
If the new coil is not making a difference, it may be time to upgrade to a more efficient, more modern device.

I feel you should be using 12mg/ml - 18mg/ml strength liquid with your MT3.

Cheers

I already had a 12mg and 18mg liquid and the throat hit was very harsh. I literally couldn't take a few puffs out of the pen. Luckily i had a few 0 mg bottles around which helped me not to go back to smoking again.

50/50 will make a slight improvement in flavor & may add a touch more throat hit, it will wick better than higher %Vg.

Getting something like a nautilus mini or nautilus 2 with BVC heads (1.6Ω - 1.8Ω) will be a big improvement all the way around.

Thanks man. That's what i was thinking.

Can a nautilus mini or nautilus X be driven with an eGo battery ? Or it needs a mod ? If it needs a mod, then bad news for me. :(

@pwheeler,

What you said makes absolute sense. The amount of cotton is so very low. Would changing to a 60/40 vg/pg or 50/50 make sense ?
I would. Higher vg works fine for certain types of equipment, but I found that 50/50 worked best. VG is quite thick and won't wick well, especially with such tiny wicks. But what the others have said, start reading and looking around for an upgrade.

Welcome to ECF and congratulations on your decision to begin vaping!

If I were you, I'd look for a juice that has a higher PG ratio. That will give you more flavor, but these juices are more difficult to find because of the sub-ohm vaping trend. Quality juice makers that offer more PG include:

Ahlusion

Custom

Heather's Heavenly Vapes

Heather’s Heavenly Vapes, Top Quality Custom E-Liquids

Quick Nic

Quick Nic Juice

Cloud Ride's Classic Collection

Good Life Vapor's Signature Blends

Seduce Juice's Signature Collection

Seduce Juice

Halo -- All except their max VG juices

Premium E-Cigarettes, E-Liquids & Vape Kits | Halo Cigs

There are other vaping devices that will deliver better flavor, but if I were you, I'd look at upping the PG content in the juices you are using. You can switch your e cigarettes later, if you want to. Right now, just find a juice that works for you and is satisfying.

If you are having a hard time with vaping and are still craving analog cigarettes badly, I recommend you increase the nicotine content in your juice until your cravings are reduced. I don't know what level of nicotine will be enough for you, but I started vaping 12 mg. nicotine on a device that is very similar to the one you are using, and it was not enough for me. I had to find juices that were 18 mg. nicotine to be able to lay down the analog cigarettes and vape exclusively. As a point of reference for you, the amount of nicotine needed by each person is usually related to how many analog cigarettes per day you used to smoke. Before I began vaping I smoked 1 - 1 1/2 packs of analog cigarettes per day and 12 mg. nicotine juices did not provide enough nicotine for me to stop vaping. Once I increased my nicotine to 18 mg. I could lay the analog cigarettes down permanently with no looking back or longing for an analog.

A Nautilus mini will work just fine with an ego battery. Here's a link to a great kit with a Nautilus Mini that comes with everything you need, including battery, Nautilus Mini tank, charging cable, wall adaptor and five coils.

If you are not smoking and the little pen isn't burning/giving dry hits...You may just need to get over this hump in the road.
As you move away from cigarettes, your sense of smell and taste will return, however as you may have noticed, the first vape of the day tastes good, then they are all "not as good" for the rest of the day. Vapers tongue. Blah.

Chew a bit of gum, nibble some fruit, drink some juice while you vape to compensate for the low flavor of the eliquid.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Hard to give a direct yes or no answer.
Ego pen is a catch all term for a very broad spectrum of all sorts & different varieties including many clone/knockoff pen style power devices.
Some none adjustable type are regulated at 3.2v, some at 3.7v, some do not have regulated output & start at 4.2v and fall to 3.2v changing the vape quality as they go.

IMO, The nautilus 1.6Ω & 1.8Ω heads work best between 3.5v ish ~ 5.0v ish or 8ish watts - 14ish watts, some folks use them below & above, it really is personal preference.

Thank you very much. I'm going to buy my juices from a local vendor who mixes fresh and can customize juices as per my requirements. He has around a 100 flavors, so i'm still in the trial phase, and finding what kind of flavors I like, so I have that going for me.

I was a 1/2 pack a day smoker and 18 mg was way too heavy for me. It had hit me like a ton of bricks when i vaped it. Immediately reduced it. Also in either the 12/18 mg or 50/50 ratio liquids, won't the throat hits be harsh ?

You're Kidding right? I thought that once you are a "convert", you should have a better palate, ergo a good flavor experience throughout the day.

Bah, that's the first I've heard of it.

Ironically, even while smoking I had a great sense of taste/smell. Still, I feel that not much has changed except for not having stinky clothes and breath.
