just got my first DIY stuff today super excited until I mixed my first 30ml batch. 70 vg 30 pg 2mg nic with 15% flavoring. couldn't taste a thing right off the back which I was pretty much expecting. had a few simple questions

1. when vaping it I get a faint taste of chemicals not sure if it's my rayon wick since I rewicked it before vaping or just the ingredients. it doesn't contain diacytal it's a blueraspberry cotton candy by capella. I know the max breathing time is 12hours but what about the minimum? 12 hours from now is 1am I just want to let it breath incase it was the juice and not my wick.

2. how long should I start to notice better flavoring from steeping at the minimal? I didn't put it in hot water or anything I just shook it up and currently letting it sit in my closet to breath.

3. is it possible to get great flavor from that ratio 70vg30pg or is that way too high of a VG to get noticeable flavor? I mean 15% seems like a lot of flavoring imo I could possibly bump it up to 20-25% but I want to see first if steeping will help I mean even if It doesn't it is still vapeable to me

4. when trying new flavors ( got 2 more flavors I didn't make a batch of ) is it okay to leave the same wick on? again I am using Rayon for wicking

For a New Mix that I have Never made before, I like to Sample it Immediately after I Mix it. Then I put it in a Cool, Dark Place for at Least 3 Days before I sample it again.

Absolutely you can get Good Flavor from 70VG:30PG. But what I have found is that High VG Mixes need a Little bit of Water to be included in the Mix.

You can Try New Flavors with an Old Wick. But I would Advise against it. I'm not a Dripper. But I have One RDA that I use to Test New Mixes. Because it is Very Easy to Swap Out a Coil/Wick on an RDA.

I found right away steep time is fully dependent on what flavors you are using. Fruits and creams, you can almost vape the same or next day with a good shake. Custards, banana, cakes etc, all seem to take at least a week if not a month from what I have read here and somewhat experienced. I'm still in mix and vape mode though, new at this myself. When I mix a winner, it rarely gets any steep time! lol

what would cinnamon bun be considered? my cinnabun flavoring smells and tastes a lot like .... cheese. im going to try and steep that one for a while but i think it has to be reduced in flavorings. kind of tasted like big red gum off the bat with cheesey taste

Probably in the cake category. How strong did you mix the flavoring. Did you use it as a single flavor mix? I've read anything with cinnamon in it uses a pretty small percentage, but that may be for a pure cinnamon flavor and not one that is a single flavor "pre-mix" eg. cinnamon bun flavoring.

15% currently going to let it steep for a week see how it gets because atm it tastes too strong of a cinnamon flavor and I think that cheese flavor I was getting is somewhat mellowing down and now it tastes like raw dough. I think I will need to reduce it for sure though tastes more like a cinnamon stick then anything but we shall see

sweetner? I'm only using 70% Vg 30% PG 15% single flavor which is PG based

Gotcha. Using a Sweetener is, of course, a Personal Choice.

I think Many DIY e-Liquids need a Touch of Sweetener. Because Many flavors are just that, Flavor. And the Flavorings we use are designed for Cooking. Where Sweeteners are Many times Part of the Recipe.

I just got two cinnamon flavorings, one is Red hots Candy and the other Cinnamon Swirl. One is TFA and the other Cap, but I forget which is which right now. Both have a very strong cinnamon smell to them and I can imagine I will use these flavors as an accent rather than a primary flavor at a high percentage. Reading a lot of the DIY blogs by Danny and others, while it may be somewhat of a boring read ( no offense to the posters, it's good stuff ) does help to take a lot of the early guess work, learning curve out. If nothing else, it's kept my disaster mix count down to a minimum.

When I was experimenting with cotton candy trying to make a juice for my wife to replace the storebought cotton candy she was vaping. I made a 50/50 with 5% Sig circus cotton candy and it literally turned into syrup within a week, even 3% went syrupy looking just took longer. I don't see how anybody can vape that as a standalone. After a bunch of research, what I did was mix the CC with a mild tobacco like 6% Hangsen highway or desert ship with at first 1% cotton candy but then to 3/4%. Its a great vape and eventhough so little cotton candy used it tastes great in her subtank mini and has a sweet smelling exhale thats pleasing to others.
Its the only juice she vapes so now with her subtank mini she can sure bogart the juice now easy 50mls a week, but I let her juice steep at least 3 weeks since it has a tobacco base it requires a lot more steep time. I have to keep 200mls ahead so her juice is nicely steeped.
I use no heat steeping at all but made a magnetic mixer from youtube and use that to mix and don't shake my juices.

I tried the heat steeping with my cinabun flavor didn't really help it. currently letting it breath more as it kind of has a chemically taste going to try vaping it again tomorrow morning. the flavor is their but it isn't so strong it is a faint taste. I can smell it better then I can taste it. then again it is a 70vg 30pg mix I have a 50/50 mix same issue throat hit is just harsher so I think i'll cut it to 60/40pg or stick to the 70/30 mixes and tweak the flavoring. the 50/50 one also has 20% flavoring.

I just wanted to show a side-by-side comparison of the same bottle of freshly-made e liquid before and after hot water steeping in a Rival® 2-quart Slow Cooker. After one hour at ~135°F. the change in color and flavor is on par with the same flavor that has been "closet steeped" for weeks.
