I've got a parallel dual 18650 box that I want to convert for use with a Kick. I've got a 18500 AW IMR battery coming in and have a new 18650 AW IMR too. I want to combine them so that I can get bigger runtime - an extra 2000mah sounds nice.

My understanding from reading on the web is that as long as I use the same voltage and type of battery that it's OK. Unfortunately I'm not sure if that really applies under the load we hit the batteries with while vaping. I hope some of you experienced modders can tell me it's no problem, or if it is a problem in some way. Thanks!

The only problem I can forsee is that of voltage dropoff. An IMR 18650 at 2000mah will retain a higher voltage far longer than an 18500 at 1100mah. This voltage difference would be the equivalent of using a partially discharged battery in series with a fully charge cell. As you probably know this can cause an unsafe condition. This page may be of interest, http://vapcentral.blogspot.com/2010/08/battery-faq.html. This website also provides some good info, Basic to Advanced Battery Information from Battery University.

I agree that safety needs to be first. Even if the chances of anything going south are slim, I wouldn't personally mix battery sizes. Theoretically, parallel batteries will drain equally, but in reality this may not always be the case based on many possible variables. With two different size batteries, I would think you would up the chances of an uneven charge between the batteries at some point during the cycle. I'm no EE, in fact I'm quite a n00b with electronics, but it just doesn't sound like a good idea to me :2c:

Two identical batteries in parallel I would have far less qualms about. If done properly I don't see a problem. the Darwin is this way, two parallel batts, but done by people who really know what they're doing. No offense intended to OP with that statement, of course ;-)

Yes, you'd want to use two matched 18500's in parallel. Even so, beware of equalization currents. IMR batts are the perfect storm for that situation. They are not protected and have very low internal resistance so a small voltage differential can cause a large current between them. Best to add built-in charging and make them non-removable (permanently connected).

These days I can't even vape my eGo 1000mah bat and a LR Boge without vaguely thinking "boom" in the back of my mind. The dual 14500 box mod is sitting in a drawer.

I'm also thinking someone needs to make a right angle adapter for 510 threads. I'd like the moving parts to go past my face instead of down my throat. ;)

Use only protected Li-ion cell and don`t have any problem. A possible danger it`s at the final of discharge when batt voltage goes at 3V, but always first batt will heat before explode.
Discharge rate it`s much higher at the booster.

grab a Gooseneck adapter.... https://www.ttteliquids.com/Shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=28

EDIT Oops. I missed cskent's post.
