Hi guys, as per the title my mod from zero to hotness and sadly i felt like it burnt my hand if i connect my tank (nimbus) tightly to my mod but i found out if i give some space between my tank and my mod it will not burn my hand but my firing switch can be very hooot! btw i'm using a mech mod.

appreciate your comments and advice on the matter.

thank you in advance and vape on! :D

whats your ohms? and what mech mod specifically? what batteries are you using? dual coil or single coil? if your mod is getting that hot, you are dangerously close to shorting that battery or at the stages of it.

i dont get to know what my ohms are since my friend setup the tank, my mod is a prototype and not sold officially yet, i'm using 18650 AW IMR batteries and also Efest's, and its dual coil with 3 loops on both, anyway i hope its not gonna be bad because when i use my aga t2 its still fineee...

thanks for the advice :)

vaseline or noalox will sort that out... what mech mod are you using by the way?
I had the same problem and i applied petroleum jelly at the back of the firing button and viola no
hot button and you can push that button till the cows come home :vapor:

my mech mod is a prototype and not yet sold officially its a pinoy mod. can u clarify "the back of the firing button"?

alright this is a ds mod. we'll use it as an example
you see the firing button?

that whole button can be screwed out so after screwing the button out apply vaseline at the other end
(opposite side of where you finger touches the button) and some at where the contact will touch with the body itself
I hope you understand what i'm saying but since i dunno the general shape of your mod i hope you can improvise what i'm telling you:laugh:

if you want firing "jahat" use noalox

Sound similar to this one...

@ericska
yeah it is exactly the same problem
but in my humble opinion i think that merely sanding the contacts would be 1. hard to do and 2. even harder to get an even sanding over the contacts
and its really not feasible over the long run and you're sanding down the contacts, so i think its more advisable to apply petroleum jelly or the best
thing to use which is Noalox because that compound contains free floating zinc particles which conducts electricity
but hey like i said its just my humble opinion. This is what has been working out for me, your mileage may vary :vapor:

i just gave my mod a boil sodium bicarbonate wash and a sand-paper my top and bottom firing post hence shinier a bit, as per your advice i didnt do it but apparently after the bath it has lessen the heat on my firing button... anyway since its a prototype and this is not out yet.. i'm posting a rare piece (;P) together with the firing switch...

edit: apparently after continuous vape its still hot *sigh*

fuyoooooooooooooo
haha the best and fastest advice i can give you its either petroleum jelly or noalox(get from legadgets)
even after you put Pjelly d you use isopropyl alcohol or any (vcd/dvd fluid cleaner) those can work too to clean and later apply noalox
i mean since its a rare mod you might as well take care of it right?

if you're using noalox apply just a tiny dab let me reiterate A TINY DAB on the firing pin and the threadings and some on the 510 connection
bro note the usage of the word tiny ya cuz a little goes a long way.

you do this and i guarantee you the button won't be hot

I use Noalox on my battery threads as a conductive lubricant. On a mechanical mod, make sure it has a sacrificial battery spring. If the battery happens to go into thermal meltdown you don't want to be holding a roman candle in your hand! A sacrificial spring will sag and remove the battery from contact with the atomizer when the heat and current flow rises too high.

The switch in a mech mod passes all the current that is being fed to the atomizer. In an electronic mod, that heat and current is handled by the MOSFET that drives the coil. The switch provides a low voltage pulse to the electronics that turn on the coil, so no heat under your finger. When you feel the heat under your fingers, you might want to remove the battery and see how hot it is. Hot batteries can get angry and go into overdrive and spew through the vents. That's not much fun at all. If your battery is Li-ion it's cause for concern. If it's an IMR, not so much. They can take short periods of high current draw without going into runaway meltdown.

ok guys, i've rebore my nimbus to 1.5mm and 2.00mm and it has lessen the heat but when chain-vape it still does heating up.

i've considered your ideas and i'm buying noalox, let me check if i'm going to do it right:

1. apply a tiny dab of noalox inside my firing pin since its screw to my firing switch
2. put some on the 510 connection and around the threadings

and since i'm using IMR batteries i shouldn't be worry too much right? tbh i will buy a new battery too, the thing is i havent tried this tank to other mods yet... i'm wondering if my friend setting up the coil wrongly? but for the sake of experiment and a better way to preserve my mod i'll give it a shot with the noalox

thanks again for the advice guys, i will update again once i got my noalox hehe

seems about right however i'm not the correct guy to talk about batteries
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will help you in that area :)
hopefully you get it sorted with noalox :vapor:

Current = voltage / resistance. I=E/R is the formula. So, if you are vaping a 3.7v batt on a 2 ohm coil, the current would be 1.85 amps. That's well within safe range.

OTOH, if you are using stacked 3.7v batteries on that 2 ohm coil, you would be vaping at 3.7 amps. The over current cutoff on a Provari is 3.5 amps.

The heat could be coming from voltage drop across components and being transferred thermally to the case or it could be from cumulative heat due to high current in the entire circuit. That's why I asked if the battery itself was heating up. Sometimes, it's just the drop across a resistive connection that creates localized heat. Fire button switches are notorious for having enough closed circuit resistance to generate heat. That's where Noalox comes into play. It lubes connections to prevent oxidation and promotes low resistance current conduction, thus reducing heat generation. It also prevents the little arc that occurs when a high current switch deactuates.

A 2000mah AW IMR 18650 battery can withstand intermittent bursts of 10 amp draw without suffering catastrophic failure. www.batteryuniversity.com is a great place to read about the characteristics of different batteries without needing an electronics degree to understand it all.

Here's the verdict of using noalox: I'm impressed!! the heat has lessen by 80%!!! problem solved! thank you again

edit: is it normal when it improved the firing as well? my aga t2 is burning so fast i get hot spots *sigh* previously it didnt happen like this

damn sorry to hear you've got another problem to deal with.
Yes its normal cuz noalox improves conductivity... erm maybe you wipe off the noalox from the top firing pin?(where you screw your aga-t2)
maybe that'll slow the beast down :p
try putting a bit more noalox on the back side of the firing button if its still hot
