N.Y. teen hospitalized after his e-cigarette explodes
It was bound to happen.

edit:"Ryan, who said he had did extensive research on the device before he bought it for $350 online less than a month ago, acknowledged that he was not completely sure why it exploded but believes it was a short circuit from a faulty battery and because the model he bought came without a chip to regulate energy current and heat."

Clearly a mech, perhaps he was using a kick. That battery has no wrap and it seems to have vented from the bottom?

In his extensive research he couldn't figure out how to get a mech and an RDA online for less than $350?
How do you know his research involved looking for a cheap mech and rda ( clones ) ? An authentic competition Able mod and an authentic competition Kennedy rda do cost $ 350 together.

I could be wrong, but that doesn't "look" like a $300 authentic to me. I'm not sure what mod that is.

It's also highly unlikely that a "faulty" battery was the cause. Perhaps a battery that wasn't rated to handle whatever he drew from it, but that wouldn't make the battery faulty.

It's ok though. Tobacco product components like this one won't be around for much longer anyway. The children will be safe.

It's an Able mod ( by Avid Lyfe ) with a custom sleeve by bizzlejuice. High end competition mod.

Avid Lyfe Brass Able Competition Mod (Authentic)

"The Kennedy 24" Competition Atomizer | Kennedy Enterprises

As far as what was at fault, i wouldn't guess.

I stand corrected about the mod.

I still doubt that whatever happened was the fault of the battery. It's not as if he was unaware that the mod "came without a chip to regulate energy current and heat."

Again, though, it's ok. I doubt tobacco product components that would even allow you to insert a battery capable of being overdrawn will be around for much longer.
