"Mod" or not a "Mod", that is the question...

It still bothers me that people call most PV's, mods. If it was designed to be an ecig originally, its not a mod. There are very few "mods" for sale (If you agree with my definition).

Modding is a slang expression that is derived from the verb "modify". Modding refers to the act of modifying a piece of hardware or software or anything else for that matter, to perform a function not originally conceived or intended by the designer.

i agree with you-
in fact, it took me a while to figure out what all these mods people were referring to in the beginning, and actually steered me away from looking into things like the Silver Bullet, etc, because, well-
i didn't want to have to take the time to workshop mod something.


i do believe the "mod" they are using though is for the word, "Modular"

I agree to some extent in theory. There are some true "modification" mods such as boxmods in which the case was originally designed to simply hold batteries. Modders have converted them, quite successfully, to PV's. Most mods, if I may use that term in this context, are designed and constructed as PV's from the start and would not likely fit the true definition of a modification. But slang words tend to stick in popular culture and that's the case here I believe.

If the word mod is confusing to someone new to vaping then I can understand that. I find it very hard to believe that confusion last very long if they are a frequent viewer of these boards. Even if Im incorrect and the confusion continues with newbies then they WILL read more and more and more to figure out what is ment by mod and with all that reading come a better inderstanding which is a good thing.

Many may describe a mod as something that would require more explaination to a law inforcement officer if you had it on a bad street at a bad time.I do agree with you on the term .

I have a hello kitty pez dispenser that was actually MODified to be a PV. So, YES, this was modded. I've got a solar cell phone charger that was MODified into a PV. That was also modded. I've got a syringe that was MODified into a tank, modified there again.

I guess this is all gonna depend on just how heavily YOU get into modding.

The pez dispenser is one bad little baby!!! There are pics in the modders forum, & probably on my profile. It takes a 10440, has a 510 connection & is CLEAN!!! Hello Kitty's nose is a red LED. (I collect all things hello kitty, so i actually opened up one of my prized, i'm saving this forever unopened pez dispensers to get this mod made). Never fear I found another one, so i've still got one in original packaging.

Mods (modifications) just rolls off the tongue much better than "Custom" or "Scratch-built" which is what we'd probably up calling them don't you think?

you really put the Personal in Personal Vaporizers... lol.. i love it.

hopefully one day i'll come across something i'd like to mod for myself.. i'm just shy of a lot of knowledge as far as engineering it and wiring if needed... esp that LED on kitty's nose! awesome!
