From what I have seen madvapes has the biggest selection of parts, but honestly you don't have to order mod parts from e-cig vendors. Of course you are going to have to order the atty connector if you don't want to deal with taps and dies making your own, but I make my box mod with things I bought at Radio Shack. Battery boxes, resistors, printed circuit boards, soldering irons, solder, flux, battery connectors, and switches are all things that can be picked up around town. And keep in mind that you don't have to make your mod the same way everyone else does. The whole point of a mod is that you are modifying your device to best suit your needs. Good luck! Being that your husband is an engineer, I'm sure the two of you will make a very nice mod.

I was hoping someone could tell me what battery box would fit 18650 li-ion batteries. I currently have a mod that I built with a 2AA covered box I found @Radio Shack. I think the only batteries that would fit will probably be 14500 batteries. I find the box to be a bit too small for me anyway. I have eight 18650 batteries that I dug out of an old laptop battery so I bought a 18650 charger from dealextreme. Im just waiting for it to come in. Im sorry, I failed to mention that I wired it so it would be universal. There is a connection wire coming out of the bottom that I can plug into a USB or a wall socket or a 3.7v battery. So I guess its a Universal Mod Box. If not I just coined the term.

thanks but I found a 2xC batt box that i know will work. And as far as my laptop batteries, why wouldnt they be safe? I mean I had the laptop for 3 yrs and used the battery all the time. recharging and discharging it frequently. The laptop was a Gateway and it used 8 Panasonic 2350mah 18650. I ve looked them up and they seem to be ok to me. If there is somthing more I should know please inform me. Oh BTW check this 1 out 2 x C Battery Box with on/off switch.

i dont think those batts have a circuit protection. i dont know why anyone poped in here to bring some light regards the 18650? question for you. are those batts in paralel? the ones on the laptop... cos i might wanna make a gigantic charger and keep it in my car. maybe add a boobster to it... and power a PT. thanks for the idea, mang!
that madvapes box?

poland, and the brassy lands of google
The cells themselves are unprotected, but the battery pack has protection and monitors all the batts. I want to say the laptop wants 12v from the battery pack so a 3 cell just in series and 6 cell parallel and series, but I'm not so sure.

edit: nope mine would take 7.4v 10400mAh, so lots of paired series, 12v is what the charger brick delivers

Wow.. Thread necromancy going on here.
So on the topic of 18650 containers/mod housings. There are many things cobbled together by various modders. Eclipse Mints Tins and Plastic push pops to name two. $3 9LED flashlights from Harborfrieght, Madvaps, microcenter, Frys, etc also work with some modding.

On your batteries, Asdaq is right. They are unprotected cells. The pack has a protection circuit built in. Removing them from the pack has removed the protection. This increases the likelihood that they will explode. Please be careful.
Unprotected cells can explode in chargers (particularly cheap chargers). They can also explode inside you mod while you are using them.
I strongly suggest that you use only protected cells unless you are sure you know what you are doing.
Several sites sell protection circuits that you can wire into a mod. This however doesn't necessarily solve the issue of charging them.

im no expert and i got some unprotected 18350 that i got to use with The Precious when/if it comes out. it has a protection circuit built into it so it wouldn't be a problem. but i wanna use them to make Mamu's easy VV that she posted but im not sure about using them. lemme make a new thread and see if someone can help. but try not to post the same thing in 4 different threads, man!:) maybe everybody is out of town or something!

Any battery, to my understanding, can suffer thermal runaway, thus causing, at best, the batts to vent. At worst...well, let's just say stick to the protected batts as they can (and have been reported to in the past) to explode....violently.

Now, keep in mind, that's a worst case scenario, and myself personally, I've never had a batt (lith-ion or otherwise) so much as vent on me, let alone explode. Just make sure you're ALWAYS taking adequate precautions, using your meter (get one if you don't have one), and using just plain ol' common sense. Alot of mishaps and malfunctions, IMO, could have been avoided with a bit of the latter. But as they say, sometimes stuff just happens. So one can never really be too careful.

Do your research, learn how to properly handle/charge/use Lith-ion batts, and always use PROTECTED batts in a PV (unprotected simply are not worth the risk, no matter how cheaply you procured them).

I highly suggest reading the following in its entirety, there's alot of useful/necessary info here:
