I was wondering if there were any companies or individuals capable of producing a prototype mechanical device. I have the ideas, and some of the problem solving capabilities but I am looking for some help taking it from rough draft to reality; possibly further.

Any assistance would be greatly appericiated.

It would probably be helpful if you gave us some idea of what you are trying to accomplish. There are so many variables with individual capability, material availability, access to tooling, etc. that it would be hard to say if anyone can help you. Plus, your end results would more than likely come out better with design input/critique from multiple sources in the community. Just my 2cents.

If you are serious, use a real computer and play with sketch-up.
If you are looking to take your beer mat idea and make it real; expect to pay someone to do ALL the work you are not willing to do.
Budget $35-50 per hour.

Have fun

Im willing to pay, that's not the concern. What I am looking for is for someone who can take an idea from some sketches and possibly a prototype pvc and make it into another prototype.

every custom one off mod I build for myself from stainless steel with exacting tolerances and truly high end worthy winds up costing me over a grand when I factor in labor and materials. are you being realistic in your expectations here? a mod that might be sellable for ~$200 will cost you well over a grand for the first hand built and developed prototype. are you looking to have something prototyped for production? if so then I guess you understand and expect this, but if you just have these thoughts because you just want something unique and to your spec just for the sake of having it then the truth is it really won't be cost effective at all

I totally understand that; R&D is not cheap nor is it quick. In reality this idea only involves the firing switch. Its something new, mechanical, but if I can pull it off it will be clean and elegant. No huge buttons on the side, no bottom buttons. In its basic form, it requires very little modification to a side mounted firing button.

hmmm, well the switch is the mod when it comes to mechs for the most part. there can only be so many differences in a threaded tube besides engraving and stuff. the switch usually needs the most engineering and is usually what really differentiates one mod from the other and what makes or breaks a mod, both literally and figuratively.

that said there have been so many variations and designs in switches that something you have in mind may already exist even if you have not personally seen it yet. I'd be curious to see exactly what you have in mind. without even seeing it I'd be willing to say that chances are high that it, or something similar to it may have already been tried or used somewhere...
