Thank you bdpf for starting this topic. I'm in a similar situation, 2 ego twists with mini Vivi tanks and finding myself wanting to buy/make a mod. My twists have been in service for about a year alternating between the two and I can sense them dying slowly. I've been using my backup vision spinner to fill the void.

I'm planning on tearing the twists apart and using the connector, button, and voltage adjustment on a custom mod...

I just got my first mech mod a couple days ago, and I love it. I don't have a Kick yet (tomorrow hopefully!), so i'm not taking it out of the house for now. But the size is definitely more pocket-friendly than my Vamo, and as soon as I get a Kick, the mod will become my ADV device.

To reply to a comment/question higher up in this thread, it's not necessary to use a rebuildable atomizer or anything like that. I've ordered an rba, but for now i'm happily using Davides on my mech mod, with 2.2 Ohm atomizers, and vaping experience is awesome.

Glenn

Congrats on the new mod! which one did you get?

I'm also waiting for my first mod or should I say modS :D

I went ahead with the group buy the you mentioned on the thread you started for a HCigar Nemesis and Ithaka.
Then the organizer decided to add the Kayfun 3.1 so I just went wild and placed an order for this one as well + the Hammer

I also placed an order on fasttech for a Nitecore 4 charger, a Trident RBA and a few other small things. It looks like my order is not being shipped as it shows that they are waiting until Dec 9th to receive the Trident. I might cancel the Trident for now and get an Igo-L or W instead.

I understand the mech mod looking nicer, and being able to get a better vape experience depending on how well the coil is built in a rebuildable but I have to say, I have a hard time understanding how can the vape experience be better with a mech vs an Ego using standard clearos/cartos  both are there only to deliver voltage so getting 4V from a mech or 4V from an Ego should be equivalent.

I guess I'll see for myself in a few weeks.

Genuine Joyetech Ego is regulated at 3.2 volts I believe. They are also short circuit protected at just under 1.5 ohms in my experience, so it's a little shy of my preferred wattage level. A mech mod would start off at 4.2v, taper off quickly to 3.7, and then drop again when it's about to die. Same goes for unregulated Egos.

Seems to me Egos just aren't tough enough. I've ruined so many by dropping them... and it's always the button that somehow gets messed up. Like the insides get shifted upon impact.

I wouldn't say mechs produce better vapor given the same atty. The advantages are found elsewhere. Egos are super small though, so I like to have one handy when I prefer to be discrete.

A satin stainless steel Provari is $159.95. It's all you will ever need and comes with a 1 year warranty. You'll want the optional 18650 battery extension cap for longer charge life, though.

The Segelei Zmax is also a good choice. It gives you variable voltage and variable wattage. VW lets you forget about changing the settings when you screw on an atomizer with a different resistance. It adjusts the voltage automatically. I don't know why Provari hasn't adopted that system yet.

Flavor is all about the atomizer design. If you are turning up the voltage and getting burned taste, there's not enough juice being fed to the coil and the juice that's there is burning. Try a Kanger T3S or Evod for better flavor and juice feed. There are lots of options for good atomizers and I'm sure you will hear many suggestions.

Generally a 2 ohm coil at 3.7v will give you a good vape with flavor with the right atomizer or carto. You can try different mixes in your juice for more vapor without higher voltages. The more VG in the mix, the more vapor. You will sacrifice flavor for vapor by going to higher VG, but you can try mixes of PG and VG. PG is more flavorful and VG produces more vapor. 80pg/20vg down to 50/50 mixes are the most popular.

Here's a poll that show what PG/VG mix people prefer.

Here's the list of all polls of ECF vapers. There's lot's of good info if you look at what people prefer.

Greetings; I got the Kayfun 3.1 clone too, through the co-op, and it will be my first rba.

I didn't order the Nemesis through the co-op, but i ended up buying the exact same mod -- an HCigar Nemesis clone -- from someone via the Wacked Out classifieds. I got it a couple days ago, and it's awesome; it has instantly become my ADV device.

You're in for a treat, when yours arrives! :vapor:
