Well, now it happened to me :( The mod is a Hotcig sx Zero. I hadn't vaped it in over an hour. It was in my vape stand and suddenly flames were coming out! I threw it out into the snow. I did remove the battery on my way to the door, but I'm sure the battery is ruined as well. My house stinks and I'm shaking.

I have (I guess had) 3 of these mods.

Glad you're okay, roxy, thats what matters. Please ask your vendor to take back that thing and credit you so that you may buy another product.

Clones are sometimes great, other times, not, esp. when the chip itself is a clone.

You might ask them if they have anyone who can test that mod for you to make sure it was or wasn't the battery. Right now there really isn't a way to know for SURE.

Or, perhaps have a modder put in a different chip for ya and keep the mod?

damn i had the same thing happen with a stingray mod, i left it in my car at a family event it rolled on the floor and created a short on some uninsluated magnet wire, my zephyr (i think thats what it was) melted and the battery was done for, glad it didn't catch your house on fire.

Sounds like you didn't lock the bottom switch, so when it rolled on the floor, it happened to come to rest with the button in contact with something, causeing the battery to discharge continuously.

Glad it didn't catch your house on fire. Not that the house matters at all. It would be a bummer to have all of your mods go with the house. That will be a sad day.

My animals :( I have 4 parrots, a dog and a cat in here.

I actually love my house, too. I did all the remodeling myself.

Only in a perfect world is that going to happen...sad fact. China is producing new mods every day and until we get in our hands we don't know what we have. The part about this mod failure that worries me is it did not happen till after being used for weeks

Safety when charging batteries is often overlooked, and some of the chargers available out there are no better constructed than these devices. When my XTAR VP1 is being used, it's either on a large plate-glass top end-table with nothing flammable around it, on a metal filing cabinet, inside of a heavy-gauge metal bread-pan, or inside of a LiPo charging bag.

Until the day comes when these devices are tested by an independent, impartial, entity before being released to consumers (like most home-electronics), safety for your family, yourself, and your home is not to be overlooked... These devices are being produced and rushed to market like some of the cheap flea-market electronic goods / toys I used to see back in the mid 70's..

Folks need to exhibit patience, and demand that these products be thoroughly tested.. sure, it may delay getting it in one's hand as quickly as they like, but at least it would be a safer bet than what is being practiced now.

First of all, I am glad you, house and everything except the mod are OK!!!! Also second, I am going to be one of the few, if not many, that will be turning my mods off if they have internal batteries. Anything else, batteries will be coming out when not in use.

Glad to hear. I hope we are all more diligent now. Its going to be a pain in the .... doing this all the time, but better safe than sorry.

Hopefully by tomorrow at least FC contacts me. Doris over there has been good to me so I'm sure she will help me with this.

Roxy, Glad you're ok. Now I'm worried about the iStick I just ordered. Being, we can't remove the battery.

That one I'm turning off.

Well, this is the only Zero mod so far that has set on fire, at least that I've seen reported. Hopefully it remains the only one.

I talked with an electronics friend this morning and we both think it was a capacitor. Apparently they usually go in the first 100 hours of use though so ?? However, the stench pretty much renders this mod from being repaired. I seriously can't express how awful this thing stinks.

I hate the fact that we are seeing more cases of mods catching fire. Totally unacceptable. And this coming from what is supposed to be a good chip. Makes me want to sell both of mine with YiHi chips and stick to Evolv chips. Don't think there are any cases of them going up in flames.

Yihi has budget chips as well. I think the sx 350 chip is the best on the market. When you sit back and look at the big picture you realize that all electronics have a chance of catching fire. I had a Macbook that went up in smoke. All budget chips are budget chips for a reason. Tolerances aren't nearly as tight. Also, it most likely wasn't the chips fault, but rather the installation of the chip was bad.
