My animals :( I have 4 parrots, a dog and a cat in here.

I actually love my house, too. I did all the remodeling myself.

Yeah didn't realize you had animals. I'd sacrifice my house and vape gear for my kids (two dogs) in a heart beat. Definitely glad you caught it before it caught your house on fire.

I hate the fact that we are seeing more cases of mods catching fire. Totally unacceptable. And this coming from what is supposed to be a good chip. Makes me want to sell both of mine with YiHi chips and stick to Evolv chips. Don't think there are any cases of them going up in flames.

They have had some issues as well. I'm not sure about fires, but certainly poor wiring from the modders. And the DNA40 glitches. I'm not sure if there's any such thing as a chip that has never had a problem?

The reason I asked is because I had this happen to me a few years ago with a vmax I was vaping on.....sounds like the pcb is at fault , whether its from shabby soldering causing a short like mine or a bad ic chip....:unknow:
Nevertheless is dangerous and inexcusable, glad your ok and it wasn't worst..
Me personally, I would take it apart and see where it came from on the board but you probably have a warranty on it. Good luck!

Yes, I can't take it apart, much as I want to know. Its going back to Focalecig for a refund. From there they will send it to Hotcig.

So much as I want to know, I need my money back. I'm debating a Sigelei 150W or a new mech. I love my Sig 100W, and its been a great mod with long battery life. I've had it 6 months. And you can whip batteries out in 1 second if you have to. And of course mechs don't spontaneously burst into flames :?:

One of my new requirements is batteries must be able to come out fast in an emergency. Those magnetic doors on the Sigs are very appealing to me right now.

I was just pointed to this thread last night, Rox, because Kat(darling) knew I got my Mini from you. I'm VERY sorry to see your experience, and can't even imagine. Talk about scary! :(

I'm glad you're OK.

I love the Mini, but will ship it back if you're in need. Just say the word...
(But I'd rather keep it, just to be perfectly clear) :)

Thanks so much, hon :). I ordered a Sig 50W yesterday due to a sale at Vaporrange even though I don't have my refund yet, but I did get paid yesterday. And today a mech I spontaneously bought from FT a few weeks ago came, too, thankfully.

Well, as far as reported fires on this mod, with 3 of us searching, we only found one other. Still two too many, but apparently its not been a known issue. Just two unlucky owners so far, at least that have posted about it.

Doris emailed me late last night that she has sent a report to both Hotcig and Yihi. I don't know if either will ever tell us what they find when they get my mod, but if they do, I will come back and report the findings. Just packing it yesterday it made my hands stink.

    That one I'm turning off.

Well, this is the only Zero mod so far that has set on fire, at least that I've seen reported. Hopefully it remains the only one.

I talked with an electronics friend this morning and we both think it was a capacitor. Apparently they usually go in the first 100 hours of use though so ?? However, the stench pretty much renders this mod from being repaired. I seriously can't express how awful this thing stinks.

Been around more than one fried capacitor in my day, and that's a stench that never goes away.

So a HOTcig mod catches on fire, and another guy in another thread had a "M80" mod explode.

Not to make light of these accidents, but the names of the exploding mods is too funny.

Also, google tells me that the Hotsig SX Zero is a CLONE. I guess another reason to avoid clones, especially where mods are concerned.

Another guy posted about this mod in another thread and mentioned how the chip in this mod is "garbage" and is NOT an authentic Yihi chip. He actually contacted Yihi and asked them about it and Yihi told him that they have never had a deal with Hotcig and that the chip is a clone. Link to that thread:

VV mods, yes... mech clones are still as awesome as they always were. If you think about it, if the US govt can't even keep counterfeit chinese chips out of our military aircraft, good luck keeping those crap chips out of "authentic" box mods.

For the trolls who went to the mechmods forum and started these threads... you now have your answer. :p

Hi Roxynoodle ! I'm so happy to hear that nothing major was damaged during your mod fire and that you and your animals are all ok.

My DH electrical engineer says more than likely it was the chip's voltage regulator that blew from a switch short (bad switch staying on but not looking like it is on). The voltage regulator on the chip steps down the power to the chip itself. So when the voltage regulator blows, the full power of the battery feeds into that chip and smokes it. Poor design. If built right, the voltage should have shut off after a specific time (20 seconds or less), regardless if the switch was in an "on" (or ever so slightly depressed/shorted) state or not.

    hope this helps.

Some people here need to do a little more research on the chip ;)

The body is nearly a clone of the Zero. There are a couple of differences. Its a little shorter and wider. It uses the sx300 instead of the sx350 or DNA30. No up/down power buttons. Spring loaded 510 instead of reverse adjustable pin.

As previously stated, notifications have been sent to both Yihi and Hotcig.

Of all that were sold by Focalecig, mine is the only one that has set on fire (so far). Lucky me. If it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any.

But, yes, it is amusing in a twisted way that Hotcigs and Smok m80s were this week's mod fires.

And for those who think high end mods would never do such a thing, I think I need to post a pic of the inside of the Pyra. Now that's scary! Of course if I do, some will say I'm lying about what mod it is or that I photoshopped it.

I can send you a mod too!:)
Living up to your name;) wish all my friends could help me keep smiling with the generosity that you have!

Roxynoodle, thanks for sharing. I'm so sorry you had to experience this and thankful it only affected the mod & batt. (though that really sucks to lose). I was looking into the zero clones on focal cig and was on the fence. Probably will steer clear now as it's just not worth the risk with a child and dog running around.
Have you decided in the Sig 150? I just purchased the Tesla 120 TC and it should be here in a week.

If you want a Zero clone, get an SXK/Yosen one. I haven't heard of any fires with those. There was another Hotcig fire after mine though, another member here. My other Hotcig though has been fine.

    I still haven't gotten a Sig 150, but I'm still tempted.
