Thought I'd share something I've been playing around with. One of the things that's annoyed me about nano/micro coil cotton clouds is that using too much cotton wastes juice, and using a small amount of cotton means always feeling like I have to tinker with it's placement. I've also wanted to play around by adding silica to the mix. This is my solution.
I hope the pictures are clear enough to see what's been done. In the picture is a 4 wrap microcoil with 3 additional loops, 1 small loop in the middle, and 2 larger loops closer to the perimeters. I tuck the cotton or silica under the 2 large loops and can use needle nose pliers to open or close them, the smaller loop in the center serves as the bottom so everything stays put. From there I can tuck the remaining cotton tail under the microcoil and in between the negative and positive post.
Vapor production on these are great, but nothing you can't get out of another microcoil, but certainly just as good. The coil I happen to build in this pic is 0.7 ohms, using 26 gauge kanthal. The silica wick in the picture is 1.5mm eckowool. The cotton is a very small amount of cotton from a cotton ball.
