So I have burnt through the mesh on my wick on that first coil many of times, more so than poping the coil. That first pulse going to that short of a lead is probably .1 ohms. My last wick I tried something different that helped. Everything is the same in prep, but when it comes to the wrapping of the coil, wrap a single coil, let the kanthal just rest against the post and pulse it till you get that black charring on the wick. You can control the single coil tightness (I always had loose coils on the bottom) and adjust for hot spots. Once that single coil is set, do the next, than the next and so on. Other thing I noticed was I have more control over the lean of the wick (when the wick leans to the post or pulls to one side). Please post original thread if someone came up with this before me.
