Modify PG/VG percentages?

Do most of DIYers keep a consistent PG/VG level with your mixes or do you vary it?

I always use 75/25 but I was wondering if altering the PG/VG ratio would have an impact on my mixes, for better or for worse.

Any recommendations?

I dont have a premixed vg/pg mix i just do it as i go along.. i use 45/55 pg/vg i find this perfect for any liquid i mix together the right balance between flavour and vapour

Two factors, at least, will affect what works best for you: what equipment you will use and how much the throat hit matters vs. visible clouds. Personally, I get all the TH I need from the 33 mg/ml nicotine I vape, so I have been using about 80% VG, 10% PG, and 10% water and flavors combined.

I vape unflavored about 90% of the time, however I do mix 2 flavors to use when I feel like using them. My normally vape a 70PG mix at 14mg, so naturally, I mixed both my RY4 and Black at this level initially..... and both SUCKED. After trying small test batches at different % of flavor without helping the flavor, I tried them at a 50PG/50VG and liked them. I have found I can do both at a max 65% PG before I no longer like the vape.

i use vg and vg nic base, the only pg in my mixes comes from flavoring anywhere from 10 - 20% depending on the complexity.

In case you are considering ordering a large amount of VG and/or PG (i.e. gallon jugs) right away, you might want to hold off on that until you are more sure whether you will use a lot more of one than the other.

Depends what it's being run in. I generally use bottom fed RDAs, so it all wicks fine, but my wife uses mainly tanks and high vg juice is not the best idea for her stuff. She uses 50/50, but i'm not sure that's because it wicks better or she just prefers simple maths!

I have not noticed much difference in the flavour either way.

Has anyone encountered muted flavors when using high% of vg? People have suggested I increase my steeping time to allow the flavors to meld rather than increase my flavor. That has not helped at all. Suggestions anyone? Adding 10% DW seems to help.

Do you notice any differences in the end result flavor by varying the PG/VG ratio?
What I mean is do you keep your flavor percentages the same even though you alter PG/VG percentages?

Suppose I may just have to give a few ratios a try. This stuff is all fairly subjective I rekon.

I really don't notice enough to make a difference in percentages but I don't like very strong flavors anyway.

I use the same percentage of flavor regardless of pg/vg ratio. Some flavors simply taste better in more vg, some in more pg. And some flavors seem to need more steep time. Some flavors I just can't get right no matter what I do, lol. Personally, I like sweet flavors - fruits and bakery - most of the time, and higher vg tastes better with them to me. Stuff like coffee or almond works nicely with more pg.

Play with it and see what works for you though, because that's the fun of DIY, you get to make it to suit you.

Thanks Delores, That's good advice. I mostly vape tobacco flavors and they seem to need at least 25% pg, otherwise they won't taste right.

If your using pre-made juices or already have mixed a batch yourself(DIY), most certainly adding Nicotine/PG/VG will have a impact and change your results. Your be increasing one aspect and decreasing another and besides that your be diluting your flavor. You don't want to dilute or increase your nicotine content to much and that's what you do by adding to a mix.

As an example say you have 5ml of juice with nicotine level of 18mg and add 1ml of PG or VG to it you've dropped the nicotine level down to 15ml and decrease the flavor.

As far as being better or worse, to each his own.
