hi all, just got my mini in the mail today:banana:. But having issues with my carto tanks. I use the smoktech DCT, U-DCT and pyrex DCT and they all have issues with air draw. the UDCT is the worse complete air locked, if I try to unscrew it a bit to leave a gap it won't fire. The others I can make work if I cheat up the tank and slide a business card in between the tank and top cap after I screw it down.

I can't seem to find a air flow controller in stock and don't really think that would be optimal anyways. I want this mod to be as compact as possible which is why I got the mini in the first place. Would any of the beauty rings solve this problem?

anyone tried to cut/file a notch in the top cap to create an air channel? how hard is the stainless steel top cap? Or what about using a thin washer as a shim between the carto and 510 connection to raise it up a bit?

all else fails and I have to get new tanks, what works that I can flush down the tank so there is no gap but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Still gotta payoff the provari.

Please tell me I'm reading this wrong and you aren't considering filing a notch in the ProVari so a Smoktech tank will work. If that's the idea, I strongly suggest you rethink that plan.

I know what you're talking about. I have similar tanks that won't work either, luckily I don't use them anyway. I have come up with fixes for too much airflow, but not too little. I'm going to ponder it for awhile. In the meantime, I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions.

Yes. I use Smoktech DCTs often. I used my grinder with a cut-off disc to carve to channels in the bottom of the tanks. When the carto is removed, it's easy to do. You could do it with a file, but a grinder is way quicker.

Also, I'd rather modify a $10 tank than damage a $160 APV.

Bless you! You may have saved one of our relics from grave injury!

Option #2:

Get a 510 to 510 shorty adaptor for like $3. It's an unfortunate looking solution, but will prevent you from having to modify multiple tanks.

I have 5 SmokTech DCT tanks. I notched them all, that way I can cinch them down on my beauty rings and still get flow.

Edit: just saw the link above. Much better looking option than the shorty.

It was just a crazy thought. My thinking was that just do it once and all my tanks would work so I didn't need to modify multiple items. Don't worry you guys talked some sense into me. thanks for the link Paul, that $3.50 part will save me a lot of heartache. Till I can get some tanks that will work.

No problem. If you are searching for a good tank that will have built in airholes on the bottom check this thread out last post.

I don't use carto tanks much but I'm getting one when it comes out regardless. It saves me $10 and also for a good cause. Not too sure about the pink o-rings tho...

The Hippo V2 is one ProVari accessory I would not do without. ;) The adjustable 510 pin is a VERY nice feature on top of the AFC. It's come in quite handy for a few attys I have.

EDIT: Here is a highly-detailed video in Geman which shows exactly how it works..

Those provari tanks with the skirt are beautiful but unfortunately, I blew my vape budget for this month. Stocking up on those guys will have to wait. For a temp fix I decided to cut notches into my DCT tanks. I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel to cut two channels into the base and it works great. I can now flush my tanks to the Provari. Unfortunately can't do that with the UDCT so might have to pick up the flow control adapter for those tanks.

Nice work! :thumb:

I just bought a $2.99 airflow controller from MVS. Not as pretty as a Hippo, but it's functional. :vapor:
