I'm a sigelei mech owner and fan. We have one thread dedicated to this brand that exploded into over 100 pages in the last month. As new members find the thread it is often not read in it's entirety and the same questions get asked over and over again. sigelei now has something like 60 different models in it's line up and they don't seem to be slowing, even recently introducing their own clone of the "kick" (regulator addon for mechanical mods).

Sooo... while I would like a "sigelei" sub forum where each model could end up getting it's own thread(s), etc. I am actually a realist too. A good mid level compromise might be a sub forum focusing on not only the Sigelei mechanicals but on these "budget" clones in general, since companies like Kamry are also expanding their market share in this direction. It could even have a fun name like "Attack of the clones" or something. In a nutshell a subforum for any "Chinese" clone (not all cheap clones come from China but...) would be good too.

An option that covers a broader spectrum would be simply a sub forum for "mechanical mods" in general, although that is pretty much what the root of the APV forum acts as now, since most VV/VW mods (Vamo, Provari, etc.) already have dedicated sub forums.

Thanks for you time and all the work you do here. :)

I want to add my thoughts about the last option I suggested, a sub forum for "mechanical mods" in general. While these cheaper "clones" are not exclusive to their owners... some own much more expensive mechs as well... I am uneasy about a sub-forum that mixes both the "clones", which *some* owners of the "authentic" versions tend to find offensive, and the higher priced, collectible versions that clones are generally accused of attempting to copy.

I rather like the idea of a sub forum dedicated to the "clones" or even one specifically Sigelei oriented. Just my :2c:

I'd go with a 'mech mod' subforum personally.

Impossible to define what is a clone and what isn't (wasn't it some Asian country, forget what they're called though there's at least a billion of 'em, who brought electronic cigarettes to market, anyhow? Who's cloning who...?)

Comparatively easy to define what a mechanical mod is.

Yes, I understand that viewpoint too. But consider this... Just the Sigelei models alone could easily overwhelm any thread dedicated to Caravelas, GUSs and the like. Throw in the K100, K101, CCTS, Caravela "clone", etc. and I'm sure those posters might prefer the "clone" crowd take their their stuff elsewhere too.

I'm not so much into the semantics of the word "clone" except for it's common use today on these forums, which seem to imply roughly any mechanical mod that is relatively new to the market, most of which are made in China and most (if not all) can be purchased for US$50 or less.

"Cheap mechs" might more accurately describe what I'm thinking about but "clone" seems to be the popular buzzword.

I think this forum has so many subforums already, that introducing new ones should be done conservatively and in increments.

Add a mech mod subforum, then if the posh mech mod owners seem to have a legitimate concern that they're being drowned out, consider adding yet another.

"We'll burn those bridges when we come to them", as it were... :)

Another of my hobbies, watch collecting, has somewhat of a divide that we are seeing here, between "clones" and more costly high end *original* models. The way most watch forums go about labeling the sub forums for the less expensive brands is by calling them "Affordable". I think that just might work, is not as offensive and something like clone, or knockoff, is and is more appropriate to the ever expanding genre of cheaper, more affordable mech mods.

Just my :2c:
