For simplicity and reliability, I like the Rough Stack from Madvapes. It comes in a couple of variations, the V2 and the Maxi.

The V2 is a single 18350 battery set-up, while the Maxi can accommodate either a single 18650 at 3.7 bolts or a couple of stacked 18350's for 7.4 volts, or two 16340's stacked for 6 volts. The complete kit, which includes a charger and some batteries, a couple of attys, and some juice, will cost about $75.00 to $80.00 for either model.

Another simple tube mod that looks promising is the Bolt. It uses a single 18500 battery for true 3.7 volt vaping. This one comes with one battery. No charger, but those are fairly inexpensive. The Bolt can be had for less than $38.00 shipped.

Pair these up with some Boge LR 2.0 cartomizers, and it's a match made in heaven. (at 3.7 volts)

Here is a link to Pbsuardo's You Tube review of the bolt.

ProVari Nirvana
I use both a ProVari and a GLV3 Mini, and like both of them. I primarily use the ProVari, but occasionally pull out the GLV3, just to change things up. The ProVari is variable voltage, so I can adapt it to almost any carto/atty combination. The GLV3 is fixed voltage (for loose values of fixed) and is between 4.2 and 3.5 volts, depending on the state of charge of the battery. If you're looking at just one device to keep you always satisfied, I'd recommend the ProVari. It's the most flexible.

If you are going to upgrade, I would recommend a good 5 volt or variable volt model. The best 5 volt model, which comes with a lifetime warranty is the GLV2 or 3. For variable voltage, I prefer the power regulated, variable wattage Darwin due to many technological advantages.

5 volt GLV 2 or 3: Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor

Power regulated, variable wattage Darwin: Nhaler

When it comes to tube mods, I'm partial to all mechanical since I have no need for VV. I just picked up an Icon from Pure Smoker and I love it. They also make the Prodigy which holds a bigger battery. InnoVapor has a very mechanical nice line, called the Alpha, that's available in several battery sizes as well, and the GG's are another well built line of mechanical mods.

Lots of different advice here (and all are worthy suggestions). [I'll put in my two cents shortly.]

It depends on what you most want from a mod: very high mAh, high or variable voltage, juice feeding, superior engineering and/or styling (at a superior price), size and shape, and even the position and feel of the manual switch. I described such parameters in my Mods Buyers Guide. Written over a year ago, it omits the newer offerings, but it points to a much more up-to-date database of most mods available today.

My two cents are:

: If you want variable voltage, the least expensive tubular offering is the $70 Lavatube (not including batteries or charger) from VolcanoEcigs.

: If you want automatic juice feeding, a cartomizer-surrounding tank is a great add-on. They are available from many suppliers in various configurations (e.g., stainless steel or black Delrin, 3ml or 6ml capacity) at various prices. For example, I have NHaler's $45 VPX Cartomator Stainless Steel Tank (3ml version) for Boge cartos and SmokTek's $13 black Delrin SmokTank XL (6ml) for XL dual coil cartos. They both work great. The SmokTank is color coordinated with my black Lavatube; the VPX Cartomator with my stainless steel and black Empire Mod.

Counterpoint....

Mods aren't always a graduation... but we've all been through it, pretty much. I had a few but my main vape is with the eGo-c's now. The whole point is to find a flavor with the right amount of vapor and throat hit - the easier and less expensive the better. The 'mod' craze came from a while back when there were few choices of batteries and atomizers/cartomizers. And the trend was toward high voltage because the 'fixed' ohms of the early atomizers weren't getting the job done. So it, then, was a natural 'graduation'.

But now, there are atomizers and cartomizers with ohms that range from 1.25 up to 5.2Ω. A 'regular' 3.7v batt can get the wattage needed to produce the flavor, vapor and throat hit for anyone's taste. So, unlike the days of fixed ohms, one doesn't have to go to 6-7 volts to get a 9 watt experience. You can get 9+ watts from a 3.7volt batt with a 1.5Ω atty or carto. And with some flavors 9 watts tend to wash them out.

So go for the latest mod, but don't be surprised if you end up, down the road, regularly vaping something that you've already tried :)
