Montana State University Students vote to ban tobacco and nicotine products

I wanted to comment on the Northern Idaho College recent ban on cigarettes and all tobacco products including E-cigarettes. Montana State University is considering a similar ban this fall when the new semester starts. There is a group going around to the universities and colleges seeking to ban all nicotine on campuses. Their "fact" spouting is unfounded and nothing but fear mongering. I find it ironic that people of Montana got "up in arms' about a proposed ban on firearms on campus, even after there have been two or three fatal shootings in the dorms. To restirct all forms of nicotine on campus including e-cigs seems a bit extreme.

As a public university couldn't you argue that they are subject to the laws of the state or city they represent? I don't really know a whole lot about law, but you would think that a ban like that could be argued in court. Thats really a pretty stupid idea, and completely unenforcable. But I guess its all part of living in a "free" society...

Yes, and Universities are supposed to be bastions of "free thinking" where students learn to be responsible adults not depend on the State to be their mommy.

They can't keep the drugs out and yet they think they can keep out ecigs, lol. It's just another unenforceable rule that will be completely and utterly ingored.

What an incredible waste of time and energy. To bad they can't learn to read, research and come to a logical conclusion on ecigs, oh that's right...it's an American University, they don't do that anymore. We've become a nation of sheep.
