So I'll just ask here and hopefully get answers quicker.

I'm enjoying my rba most of the time but sometimes it's finicky. I'm sure it's my builds and I'm getting better and will definitely get there. But...

My current build is 400 Mesh, 30ga, 5/6 wrap (I think), 2.1 ohms. All the sudden it has started gurgling. I read somewhere what cause gurgling but can't find it. Help?

I need to order mesh. I use 70-85% pg. Is 400 or 500 best? Or does it really matter with juice this thin?

Once i get this mastered should I try silica or ceramic next? Or what else and why?

One more... My DIY tobacco is tasting better of course but sweeter. Is this just because I can taste the flavor better and the sweet was muted in Cartos? Or is it something with my build? I'm sure it's the first, but I saw in another thread somebody asking why their's was sweeter in rba.

"gurgling" is usually caused when your juice get over the air hole in the top cap. Take off the cap and clean inside. Maybe you are tilting too much or you are wicking the juice too effectively (try turning up the voltage).

Trying silica will not get you any performance (IMO) increase than SS mesh has to offer. Ceramic is just getting into the market. I would get my skills homed in before turning to ceramic (very delicate and breaks easily for the cost of the wicks).

Juice maybe tasting different or sweeter due to the SS mesh or maybe you have been steeping for a longer period of time?

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys. I'll get some 500 and check the air hole. I don't think that's it and I'll probably build a new thicker and fiber rolled sick to see if that helps to not bring to much juice up. And I'll keep an eye on my tilting. I haven't really paid attention to that.

I've heard that many drill larger airholes. why is that done?

It's not the juice as far as the sweetness. I DIY and using same juice in Cartos. Is SS mesh known to add sweetness at times? I'm going to try a different bolder tobacco with the new build.

Thanks again!

Drilling the air hole will make your drag of the device more airy. This is a preference by some people (I like it more tighter - like a cigarette pull) and obviously helps with the air flow in the chamber.

Still not sure why you would get a sweeter taste using SS mesh. Maybe the sweetness has always been in your juice and you have not experienced it using carto's that would "dull" the flavor.

Gurgling is any device is typical of flooding with too much juice in the air chamber.

BTW - 500 SS mesh will definitely wick better than 400 mesh - especially using a thinner based PG juice. Are you rolling your wick solid or straw? I use solid 500 wick (I to use thin PG) and the 500 seems to wick better and I don't have to tilt.

Yup. I think it was always there and I just couldn't taste it in the carto. I mixed a different type tobacco I'm going to try tonight.

I tried to do a solid but I think I remember seeing light when I looked through it. I'll try a more solid one. Haven't had a chance to mess with it yet.

Anybody know of any type store or shop where you can buy mesh?

If you're gurgling, rotate the air hole to be at about 4 o'clock instead of 6. That'll bring the juice away from the air hole. Store it vertically and the juice should fall back into the tank over time.

#500 mesh worked the best for me. I would suggest trying out lower pg blends, like 50/50. Thicker juice won't leak out as much.

For another wicking alternative, I just got a fairly awesome setup going. It's Stainless Steel Rope 316 grade, 7x7 orientation, 1/8 inch outer diameter. It's covered at the top where the coil sits with a small piece of XS-18 1/8 inch inner diameter silica sleeving. This thing wicks almost vertical, can do a comfortable 45 degree vape for the whole tank and the coil never shorts out. Check out the thread about stainless rope, there are links to the supplier.

Now that sounds a bit complicated. :) I'm sure it's not as I thought rbas were. I'll read it a little slower later.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the airhole. I'll give that a shot. Unfortunately to much VG gives me light sores/tenderness in my mouth. I used to vape 50/50 until I finally figured out what was causing them.

Update. I had dropped my RSST on provari on the cement a week or so ago. Every once on a while I was seeing a drip of juice just above the rim of the bottom piece. I had inspected it very closely disassembled and couldn't find anything. I just moved that same wick and coil to a new RSST and it's working great! The must be a very minor crack/hole in the first one?

I'll get a replacement tank someday if this one continues working.

Thanks for your help all! And new ideas for coil setups
