I just got into rebuildable atomizers here lately,as a matter of fact my first was the
Smoktech Vivi rebuildable I got from Mountain Oak Vapors ,along with some Kanthal A-1
and stainless steel mesh. I recently ordered a 100ft roll of Kanthal
A-1 from ebay and received my package today.I opened it up and was
trying to figure out where the start of the spool was and finally found
it and when I cut me a piece off to make a new coil I thought to
myself, this wire feels a lot stiffer than what I had gotten from MOV?So
I compared them and sure enough it was alot more stiff than what I had
got from MOV,but I figured it was just from a different company so I
decided to check it with my multimeter and the resistance kinda jumped
around before it finally settled down.I have had some problems ordering
through ebay before,so I was kinda ...... off and thought the place I
got it from was trying to pull one over on me. I then cut a piece 1ft
long off the 100ft roll I received and then cut a off a 1ft piece off
from what I got from Mountain Oak Vapors. The piece I cut from the roll was 13.9 ohms
and the one from MOV was 10.4,so I knew something was wrong.I contacted
the seller from ebay and explained it to him, and he got back in touch with me in a
little bit, and told me that he had indeed sent me the right wire, and
that the other wire I had was Nichrome instead of Kanthal A-1!So I
had to apologize to him and assured him that I would continue ordering
from him if I ever needed any more wire and he still had the best price?
Now I know had been a little over a month, but I had been thinking I
was using Kanthal for over a month, and would have never knew the
difference if I had not got the Kanthal A1 from ebay.I have commented in the
forums that Kanthal had a mettalic taste when it was really Nichrome, and
lots of things Ive got mixed up to straighten out.I'm not a ... whole
that when things happen like this, go around on every ecig
forum, facebook, twitter and tell anybody else I know who vapes that Mountain Oak
Vapors, makes people think they are buying Kanthal A-1, and sells them
Nichrome!!Before I speak up I give someone a chance to explain first! Then I will see if they indeed admit their Mistake and what they are going to do about reimbursing me.
I know mistakes happen all the time, and I see how a mistake like that would be easy to
make, when they both look the same, and someone might have even sent them
Nichrome instead of Kanthal who knows?Well it's been 3 days since and all I got was a email saying they will check with the company they got there's from and see if they made a mistake? When I ordered it you couldn't find any Kanthal of any type on ebay, amazon, and they were the only vendor I could find who had it.There is no telling how much they sold to others who are using it now, thinking they are using Kanthal A-1!!They did email me back yesterday and asked me if it was 32awg and I replied yes. Then they replied back, Thomas,

It's not our intent to deceive anyone about the products they are purchasing we will look into this immediately.

It is possible we were sold something that was not accurate. This is what we have bought:

Amazon.com: Resistance Heater Wire, Kanthal A-1, 32 AWG 0.008", 0.20mm: Industrial & Scientific

I will do some testing on our end as well as contact our supplier to find out what the deal is. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Nothing about replacing my wire,or giving me a credit, just a dam thank you!!Well Mountain Oak Vapors here is my thank you for your wonderful customer assistance, hope you have many more customers as happy as I am!!:evil:

Don't know what the original wire gauge was but that will change your Ohms per feet rating. I have a calculator I made in Xl that will show the amount of inches or cm you need or a certain resistance. If you stick with the Kanthal and use the same gauge then the ohms rate should be the same. At least it did on all the places I priced it. I got mine on EBay but there are some suppliers on here that sell it. I'd tend to trust them more.
Here is that Xl spread sheet. Don't change the segments that are in red.

Well, IDK what to say.

You said it's been 3 days...but today is Sunday morning so a least one day (yesterday) is a weekend. And it may take them more time to check than that. Also, to their credit, they are still checking from what I read in your post.

I'm not defending them if they are in error....they should take the old product back and replace it with the proper stuff. However, it's definitely tricky to prove since the two products may be from different manufacturers.

You bring up a good point...how do you know? How does the vendor know? Maybe a resistance-wire expert can give us a conclusive test. It should be labeled if on a spool. Hmmmm.......

I ordered a Phoenix clone, wick and wire from them a while back and I definitely got kanthal. I got nichrome wire with my DID clone and I can definitely tell the difference. If you have 32 awg kanthal, and 32 awg nichrome, the kanthal would have a slightly higher resistance. The nichrome that came with my DIDn't seemed to be poorer quality, and all 3-4 coils I wrapped in a row on the genesis popped in like 2-3 seconds of dry firing, never had that happen once with the kanthal.

Edit: I am making an educated guess here, as I know the wire that came with the genesis was nichrome, and it felt completely different than the wire I got from MOV, so I could end up being completely wrong.

Like I said in the email I sent them, which is the post I started this thread with, the 32awg Kanthal A-1 I got from ebay measured 13.9 ohms/ft on my multimeter, and the 32awg I got from MOV measured 10.4 ohms/ft!When I noticed the difference I looked at many different charts, and the chart I went by said 13.84 ohms/ft for kanthal and 10.57 ohms/ft on the nichrome. So there is no way 32awg that I received from Mountain Oak Vapors that measured 10.4 ohms/ft was any type of kanthal!

I checked the resistance the day I got the kanthal from ebay.I had also bought a Bulli A2TM from vaporcigzz.com and received it the same day as the kanthal from ebay, and the Bulli came with wire too wrapped around a little peice of cardboard.I was making a coil with the new kanthal because it was stiffer feeling and when I got done and checked my resistance I thought what I had got from ebay was the wrong wire, because what I got from MOV usually measured 2.4 ohms every time I made a coil, and it measured about 3.4 can't really remember exactly?I knew that they were both 32awg and there was no way the resistance would have been that big a difference if they were both kanthal! The wire I got with the Bulli A2TM was 20.50 so I figured it was kanthal D?It doesn't matter which kind it was because it came with the atomizer,it wasn't ordered for a special purpose!Vaporcigzz has excellent customer service by the way,one of the best packaged orders I have got in the past 3 years!!The order from Mountain Oak Vapors had the wrong wire sent, and the sheet of ss mesh was just threw in there creases, bent all to hell! The thing that is really gets me is the wire that I'm complaining about,I liked better than any I've got!!So why am I complaining?I think customer service should be any vendor's first priority!!I have dealt with many great vendors that would have replaced the wire soon as they got my email, with no more questions asked! That is the way a vendor with good customer service, handles things like this!

I got a email from Mountain Oak Vapors a little after noon today and thought I would post the developments to my thread.

It said that I see you were unable to help yourself from posting on ECF about their company and their customer service! After they read my comments they were a bit confused. That I never asked for a refund or a replacement for what I received in my package, and they told me they were looking into the issue. That It was very difficult to determine what,or if any issues existed. Then they said, they DID place an order for 1,000 feet of wire from the vendor that I had suggested to them on 10/5/2012.

They said that the package had not yet arrived, but they were expecting it in the next day or two, at which point they plan to do an apples to apples comparison with what they have been previously sold to insure that they are selling the highest quality, most accurately labeled wire that they can.
They said that they didn’t see anywhere in my email correspondence below where I asked for a refund or a replacement on anything with my order so clearly there was a communications issue there. They was under the impression that I was bringing this issue to their attention so that they could investigate/correct any issue they may have had on their end, and they didn’t see where I was asking for a refund either partially or in full, or requesting that a replacement package be shipped. That perhaps that was their fault for assuming that if I had already ordered 100 feet of new wire for $9.99 that I was all set in the wire department.
They said they would be receiving a new order of wire shortly (Monday was a shipping holiday, and they ordered it on Friday) and they are DEFINITELY willing to replace my wire with what they receive from that order regardless of what they determine with their investigation. Despite what I think, Customer Service IS their number one priority and they always make sure that their customers were happy and well taken care of, whether if it is refunding things when they explicitly state they do not offer refunds, re-shipping packages because the customer entered their address incorrectly, or replacing a full order/issuing a full refund to make a disappointed customer happy. They try their best in every facet of their business to be prompt, courteous and respectful to their customers and to not take advantage of them. “I'm not a ... whole
that has things happen like this happen, and go around on every ecig
forum, facebook, twitter and anybody else they know saying Mountain Oak
Vapors makes people think they are buying Kanthal A-1 and sells them
Nichrome without giving someone a chance to explain first!”
They said about the statement above, that I had made, that their response they thought I understood that they were going out of their way to investigate the issue and come to a resolution. Clearly they cannot work miracles in a few business days time, but that they do their best to try. If I had asked for a refund on the item it would have been handled promptly, if I had asked for a replacement package once they had it sorted out, they would have informed me that it will take some time to investigate the issue in order to get me a replacement that I was happy with. They said that they did not see where I asked for either of those things, so to then go to the forums and post negatively about their company was very disappointing to them when they were doing their very best to resolve any issues that may exist. They said their customers were mentioning my post in their comments, that is how it was brought to their attention.
I had not checked my email yet when I got a call from Mountain Oak Vapors. They told me that they had been investigating the incident and would but would be glad to refund or replace the wire that I had purchased from them. They said that customers had commented about the thread I had put on ECF about the kanthal I had purchased from them. Well I kinda feel bad about making the thread but don't know if I should feel bad or not?If they really were planning on taking the wire I had suggested to them to buy from ebay, and seeing if there was that big of a difference in ohms/ft, then yes I do apologize, but that doesn't make much sense to me,because all they had to do was go online, and find a list of resistance wire that shows ohms/ft,for different types and diameters of wire from the company they got the wire from, then measured a foot of their wire, then they would have seen that it was not the right wire! That is what I did! They gave me a link to amazon were they bought the wire from, and on amazon it said the wire was between 12 and 15 ohms/ft,how hard could that have been? They could have went to the Kanthal company website, the original kanthal maker, and checked the ohms/ft.Any of those places would have shown them that their wire wasn't kanthal! They also said they took my advice and ordered 1000ft from ebay,if I wasn't right about the wire being wrong I bet they would have bought a 100ft instead of 1000,but then again the difference in $12.95 with free shipping, and $40.00 for 100ft I guess I would have bought 1000ft also! When I first contacted them on friday maybe I should have asked for a replacement or credit?I just thought since I emailed them complaining about receiving the wrong wire, they should have knew I wasn't just contacting them to tell them I got the wrong wire and that they were paying too much for it,were they were getting it from! They should have asked me if I wanted a refund or credit!A customer shouldn't have to ask for a refund in a situation like this,or at least said they would do something about it if they found that it was the wrong type of wire!Any way they did contact me and made it right, and I truly am sorry if it caused them to lose any business!!There is one thing I learned from this, that this shows how strong the ECF is!The ECF is the best place to come when you need to find any kind of information, and everybody tries to help each other out on this forum, and i'm proud to be a member of the ECF!!As far as this thread goes it can be closed now!
