Also, one other thing to keep in mind is that these things can actually produce a vapor that is hotter than what you may or may not have been used to smoking regular ciggies. Couple that with high nicotene mg, and if you have any sort of sensitivity, then a mouth sore isn't all that unlikely, and I would imagine that the 0nic although helped dramatically - you were about at the end of the lifespan for your sore also.

My .02 anyway! :)

I always assumed that the vapor was cooler due to vaporizing and not combusting. It worries me that it can be hotter because from what I understand the heat can cause a cellular change in the mouth and other organs and cellular change can be a precursor to cancer again,"from what I understand". I could most definitely be wrong as I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, so take it for
what it's worth.

I got one dark red spot in the roof of my mouth (hard palate), the first one I can remember. I'm using a DSE901, vaping straight PG, teabag mod since Friday. Saying the teabag because it was on Saturday that I started to feel this sore.

It's not the nicotine (in my case) but it might be the hot vapour, going to the dentist today to show.

It could be interesting to see which models cause this more.
I think I'm the second dse901 user with this problem.

Well I have this "bump" and it may be from getting juice in my mouth as I have flooded my attys a couple times as I am getting used to how much to fill it with and have made some mistakes but in general it fades away and then I'll get more juice in my mouth and a bit later it will start to come back haha never tried no nic juice though so I don't know if it's PG/VG or the nic

My dentist looked at it and asked me if I had burned my mouth with something. As I suspected the change to the teabag was the cause...(correction) I was the cause by initially puffing with the same strength as with polyfill and all that vapour (finally) caused the burn.

When I tried to explain her (dentist) what was the cause (ecig), I saw in her face what she was thinking... (joke, drugs, dementia, stupidity, what the hell is he talking about?)... I realized that I am not of this planet.

the PG and the nic cause soreness for me. I switched to low PG juice from johnson creek which made it better and when I smoke no nic it goes away completely. PG dries things out in general, I know this from working around fog machines at work a lot, that's why singers hate them, dries out the throat. I am on low nic now, 11mg, and that helps but the nic still causes trouble. I was a very light smoker before, now I vape all the time. I would absolutely love to find a no nic no PG vanilla recipie of juice to smoke in between the times I want nicotine. Not everyone is as sensitive to PG though so keep that in mind.

It started for me when I started vaping, although it was a sore in between my cheek and gum in the front. I recently have had what Xtian who posted and wrote a swollen part of the gum in the inside back by the wisdom tooth or back molar. I thought it was an absess and I tried to drain in but there was no puss, nasty but I've been doing remedies to hopefully stay away from the dentist as I dont have ins and I'm not working right now. It does hurt though, I would hate to have to go back to analogs because of these conditions.

I swished some hydrogen peroxide around and it seemed to help me, I also used hot water with sea salt as a mouthrinse. Also found out that holding a black tea bag that has been soaked against it seemed to speed up recovery. Something in the black tea specifically but I can't remember what the ingredient was called, having a brainfart:rolleyes:. Hope that helps. These sores can be so annoying, everytime i would eat something it would flare it up:mad:

i have had mouth sores ever since i started vaping and for me there is no other cause than vaping. for me it does not matter if its PG/VG or PEG i still get them and its not from getting liquid in the mouth. i just get them! and if i do happen to bite or nick my mouth i know that a sore is on the way but for me as long as i maintain proper hygiene they all go away faster. if i lack in taking care of them they get out of hand, so i brush twice a day and when i have a sore i use listerine after brushing. i could stop vaping but i do love it so and there is no way i am going back to real smoking! so for me its a trade off and i go through cycles where i vape ALOT, to only once or twice a day so its on ongoing thing for me and i hope the fellow vapers out there keep vaping!:D

I think its a burn - or reaction to heat becuase I can get the EXACT SAME bump if I burn my mouth eating pizza (its the hot cheese - I bite it and right behind my front top teeth it burns and then a little sore comes). If I use something protective (Bonjela/Orajel for mouth ulcers) it goes away in a day or so.
I try and keep it from drying out, as the Orajel comes off fairly fast (it feels like it does, plus it tastes disgusting), and try not to poke it with my tongue (lol I know you all do it).
I also try to vape at a different angle so the mouthpiece isn't aimed at the same spot over n over, and so far so good.

Since PG is used in asthma inhalers, this quote is interesting:

Xerostomia [dry mouth] can cause side effects in your oral health. Because saliva regulates the acidity in the mouth, a lack of saliva can allow harmful bacteria or fungi to grow more quickly. Oral candidiasis, a fungal infection also known as thrush, can cause sores and irritations in the mouth. People using inhalers for asthma are at greater risk for thrush. The lack of saliva can lead to other infections, swollen or ulcerated mucous membranes or tongue and cracked and inflamed lips.

Source (Creative Commons): Side Effects of Xerostomia | eHow.com

And a list of symptoms caused by xerostomnia, all of which (besides dentures) I've seen mentioned on here:

1. A sticky, dry feeling in your mouth and tongue

2. Cracked lips

3. Difficulty in chewing, swallowing, tasting, or talking

4. Mouth sores

5. Frequent bad breath

6. Dentures that do not fit comfortably

Saliva helps in chewing, swallowing and digesting food. It also protects teeth from decay by diluting and washing away the food residuals, sugars and the acids produced by bacteria. When saliva is in shortage, as in dry mouth condition, it can cause the following health risks.

1. Reduced saliva flow results in lower pH levels in the mouth, increasing the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath and oral infections.

2. It can lead to dryness; a burning or sore feeling in the mouth or throat; bad or reduced taste; dentures becoming loose; difficulty in chewing, swallowing and even speaking.

Source (Creative Commons): ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT XEROSTOMIA / DRY MOUTH

It's interesting to note that many sites recommend steam to help with a dry mouth. Imagine an e-cig that emits a puff of steam every time you take a drag? (Yeah, something else to keep filled up!)

Ughh. Cmon. Nicotine is a Irritant. Of course the bump is going to go away after you stop/go to 0nic juice. Just use the 0nic juice for a few days and let it COMPLETELY heal, then go back when you know it is completely gone. If it is already sore... nicotine is just going to irritate it more and make it come back.

Best advisable tip:

Instead of using listerine, or use along side it... SALTWATER. Seriously. It really does help. I would do it sometime soon after vaping, just to make sure that any nicotine that got in the sore is cleaned out before it can irritate it further.

I recently started dripping, and flooded the hell out of a crappy mega attie. It was a leaking mess big time. I blew it out 3 times that day, trying to figure out what the heck. Well long story short. I got a huge mouth full of juice, the last blow out.. Juice everywhere! I rinsed the best I could and well. Hours later under my bottom lip on the inside. Canker sore. Hurt like a freakin ugh! I ignored it till it hurt so damn bad. Well been doing the sea salt water like on this thread. It's starting to look better. These thing's hurt!!!!!!

I am having all sorts of problems withouth sores and bleeding gums. I didn't have problems with either when I smoked. I have good oral hygine. I don't think I could vape o nic juice as I have only been off analoges for about 3 months. I am using 18 mg I'm gonna try all vg and drop down to about 11mg see if that helps. I can't stand the taste of analoges but I might start smoking again if theses sores don't go away soon. They are sooooo painful.

I was told by my dentist that these could come and go (canker sores) for as long as a year after one quits smoking. I had ELEVEN of them at one time at a point. I am 9 months analog free and now I only get them from time to time. The last one I had was in my tonsil area and was the size of a dime. I was convinced it was throat cancer and had my doc look at it, nope, just a canker sore.
