Today is day six of being tobacco-free for me (2nd attempt). Over the past couple of days, I noticed I was getting a bit of a sore throat. I get tonsillitis once or twice a year, so I assumed it was about to strike again. I went to see my doctor to get hold of some antibiotics. He had a good look in my mouth, sat down and asked me if I'd had oral sex with anyone recently! :laugh:

Stifling laughter, I told him that I hadn't. He told me that I didn't have tonsillitis, but some sort of viral infection which will apparently clear up without any medical intervention.

After I got home, I did some Googling and searching on this forum and realised that it must be the dreaded mouth ulcer issue that seems to afflict many people after giving up smoking.

Anyway, I found it somewhat amusing, so thought I'd share. :)

I was asked the same. My answer, however, was "Roughly half the office. Why?"

Then a smirk and, "No, I quit smoking. Common side effect."

My doctor prescribed Magic Mouthwash, which is kind of like Cloraseptic but a stronger anesthetic. It tastes pretty bad even with the mint additive, though, so I'd personally just use an OTC topical mouth painkiller.

If it's any consolation, mine faded in a week. Avoid any hot foods, stick with bland stuff. I tried--keyword here is tried--to eat a chili recipe I love. It's not especially hot, but it was still too much for me at that point.

My mouth ulcers seem to have all but disappeared now. :toast:
