After almost 3 months of vaping and laying off analogs completely, I was diagnosed with the above yesterday after 5 days of fever, body aches and chest discomfort.
Not sure if it's related to vaping cos despite smoking analogs 35 years, I have never been hit with mycoplasma/bronchitis pneumonia. Worst case was a bad sore-throat or tonsillitis.

I have not been vaping for 6 days now as I'm still on medication with 3 types of antibiotics.
So far, based on some info from the net, it seems that some causes of MP could be due to inhalation of smoke/chemical fumes as well as bacteria/viral infection.

I'm more inclined to believe mine was caused by the latter. Reason being, the mouth-tips/drip-tips are always exposed to air for long periods before it goes to the mouth.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you recover quickly.
I must admit I was a bit worried when I read your post - being new to vaping myself. I suppose nothing we do is completely without risk and bacteria is everywhere. It's easy to look to vaping as being the cause of so many things and certainly I'd be questioning it being a relatively new activity but you only have to touch an infected surface to pick up bacteria and we do that thousands of times a day don't we? Perhaps even as smokers (of cigarettes) we are more prone to infection BECAUSE we are constantly putting our hands to our mouths - more so than non smokers? Just doing a little guessing here. :)
Anyway, get well soon!

I"m glad to find this thread. I was searching to see if anyone else has had a bad lung infection this year. Sounds like that's what you are going through. I have never had so much trouble with my breathing as this spring. I've been told by three docs that I had a lung infection, and that was in early March. I missed two weeks of work, and STILL can't breath right. Can barely make it to the building from my car at work. And forget carrying any bags or pkgs. I have to stop often to catch my breath. NOt sure what to do about it. I"ve been through all the antibiotics, inhalers, pills, etc. I"ve even had to take benzodiazepines for anxiety over not being able to breath. I mean I can't get enough air, and it panics me. Are you suffering with these same symptoms?

Myself and another co-worker both ended up buying new mattresses thinking it was our beds causing the back, shoulder, lung-area pain every day. Turns out we both were sick. ANy thoughts? Thanks.

From what I've read, it is a type of bacteria that you were infected with and is passed person to person.. Those at the highest risk work around a lot of other people.. So I don't see how vaping could have caused it.. I didn't find anywhere that is says it can be caused from inhaling anything.. Coming in contact with infected phlem is what I read.. IE: Sharing a e-cig with somebody.. Not saying thats what happened.. If anything, I will definatly be washing my DT's nightly... Hope you feel better!!

I don't know what kind of juice you use, but I would look into an all natural juice. All juices are not the same. Some juices even have stuff like diacetyl (I think that's how you spell it) which they also use in the making of microwave popcorn. It causes irreversable lung damage.
Also, this year is the worst year we have seen fo allergies in a long time, and people who don't even have allergies could be affected. I would try to get an antihistamine with pseudoephedrine (expands bronchials) in it (otc, but you have to get it at the pharmacy), get a more natural juice, and try getting some light cardio exercise at a gym.

I already had COPD before I started vaping but my health has improved 100% in the 18 months I've been off cigarettes. I haven't had a single cold either. I can do so much more now than before and the VA doctors are amazed at my improvement.
I think it is good to talk about problems but don't be to quick to blame vaping because you may discourage others from quitting cigarettes and trying vaping. Cigarettes are killers pure and simple!

Saw this re-started thread. Had to add that TS is from a High humidity country. Bread left out on the table goes mouldy in a day.
I do take that extra step to toss out atties every 2 weeks, used cartos in 2 days and only 2-3 days worth of juice in open while everythin else goes to the fridge whenever im in Singapore.
Not sure of what caused the MP but hope all goes well and stay safe!

Am I supposed to be refrigerating my juice?????!!!! Seriously?? I had no idea!!!! Oh my gosh I'm going to have to throw it all out. AArrrgghhhh....I'm talking 30-40 bottles. :( I swear I've never seen that mentioned! I think there should be a damn sticky in the newbie section that says this. Crap.

RE: Lung Infection - my neighbor got one after he started vaping and now will NOT vape anymore - he'd never had a lung infection in his life and then got one within 2 weeks of vaping. I agree that's pretty coincidental, but trying to determine the mechanism - what in our juice/cartos could help cause something like that?

there are many discussions here on how to store liquids. it would seem nobody is really sure ... the general opinion seems to be to keep them cool and dark. I keep mine in a dresser drawer in my air conditioned house and they seem to be ok. I have put some in the freezer for a few days, they seem ok too. I wouldn't go throwing stuff out and getting annoyed with the forum :) do a search of the forum for storing liquid if you want to read some of the discussions

DO NOT refrigerate your juice. It can cause it to go bad...something to do with the flavorings spoiling. Just keep it in a cool dark place.

As for illnesses, I've caught my fair share over the past 2 months. Stomach flue and then a cold. I didn't catch anything last year. I don't believe it has anything to do with vaping but has everything to do with all the germs this year. Our weather has been really odd. Everyone that I work with this season has been terribly sick so it was inevitable that I was going to catch something.

Cleaning the DripTips everynight will help. Also, after boiling the cartos 2x, do not rinse with tap water. Just blow them out and set out to dry. (or rinse with distilled water).

I'm on my 2nd flu this year, and had ZERO the previous year. Even so, only one flu was "serious". They used to ALL be serious.

I hope you recover soon.

Mycoplasma is a relatively common cause of Pneumonia, and usually causes what is called an atypical/walking pneumonia. Its a bacterial infection plain and simple, I'm not sure how vaping could have anything to do with it unless vaping somehow makes you more prone to infection, which is hard to say, but logically, one would think that it does not, especially in contrast to smoking analogs, which most certainly does. It can take quite a while for a full recovery, but outpatient treatment typically consists of a 1 antibiotic regimen for 5 days (e.g. Z pack). I'm curious what your situation was, which required triple therapy?

woah just realized i was replying to the OP which was months old lol. sorry :)

but still...

Normally it is best to keep refills in use in a cool, dark place; and long-term storage of bulk supplies in a freezer. They should be placed in glass, with a little headroom in the bottle, and double-bagged.

All liquids stored should be in glass. Plastic bottles are only suitable for short-term use, as some materials in some refills will leach plasticizers out of plastic bottles. This is why some liquids will crack clearomizers.

Unflavored base liquid will keep for several years in a freezer. Flavored liquids should last for one or two years, perhaps more.

If you live in a hot, humid country it may be wise to keep liquids in use on the top shelf of a fridge, near the front. This is because there may be no storage elsewhere that is cool enough. The top shelf of a fridge is the least cold, and near the back is colder as it is closer to the cold plate. This is not a long-term solution.

Also, it may be of use to have a small amount of PG in your e-liquid even if you normally use all-VG, since PG is such a powerful bactericide and virucide.

Mouthpieces and tips should be cleaned daily in hot countries.

There are some variations of VG commonly supplied for vaping in the Far East that should not be vaped, they may result in shortness of breath for those affected.
